'''Ulala''' is the main character of the video game series called ''[[Space Channel 5]]''. She is a Channel 5 reporter in the distant year of 2477 sent to cover an alien invasion. These aliens, known as '''Morolians''', have been using a ray gun to cause people to dance uncontrollably. The Moralians captured most of the other Channel 5 reporters, thus Ulala is the only one for the job. She uses her dancing skills to fit in with the alien invaders and avoid capture.

Ulala is the protaganist of Sega's Space Channel 5 series of dancing videogames, and debuted with the eponymous original title on its release for the Dreamcast in December 1999.

Overview

The Space Channel 5 games take place in 2477, a surprisingly groovy future. As a top reporter for the titular Space Channel 5 news agency, Ulala is frequently dispatched on assignments to get to the bottom of strange and interesting cases, and thus is first on the scene for incidents like alien invasion by the dancing Moralians, or the kidnapping of the Space President.

When she was young, a reporter from Space Channel 5 saved Ulala's life, inspiring her to likewise become a journalist. She always carries her trusty microphone and two guns: the Chu Beam, for shooting aliens, robots and other attackers; and the Rescue Beam is used to rescue hostages being forced to dance. When ratings are high, she emits a pink aura, signifying she is full of groove energy.

Sonic Series

Ulala's relation to the Sonic the Hedgehog series comes in the form of an appearence as an unlockable character in Sonic Riders. The reporter is in fact one of the fastest characters in the game, with speed stats rivalling those of Sonic and Shadow. Her Extreme Gear board is the Channel5.

The dancing newscaster makes another playable appearence beside Sonic in Sega Superstars Tennis. Here, she tends to attract wolfwhistles from bystanders (including NiGHTS, despite the fact that the Nightmaren jester is supposedly androgynous).

Even moreso than with NiGHTS, Ulala's canonical relationship with the Sonic universe is dubious at best. She is only present in spin-off games, and then only as a supplemental character, not tied in to the actual storyline. Outside the Sonic series, she also cameoed in Sega Superstars and Beach Spikers.
