In the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Doctor Eggman (or Dr. Robotnik in the early western version) has created many robots. The designation E-series gained prominence after the release of the video game Sonic Adventure, replacing the term badnik which had been used to describe Eggman's robots previously in most continuities. Presumably, the "E" stands for "Eggman", though this is not known for certain.
Contents
Sonic Adventure Robots
The first use of the term E-models was in Sonic Adventure. Although most often connected with the E-100 Series of gunner robots that were prominent in that game (see below), other minor robots were also considered E-models. They are listed here.
- E-01 Baby Kiki - a monkey robot that throws bombs
- E-02 Rhino-Tank - rhino robot that charges at high speeds
- E-03 Sweeper
- E-04 Leon - a chameleon that turns invisible
- E-05 Boa-Boa - catterpiller robot that emits flames
- E-06 Bladed Spinner (Spina) - bat robot that spins
- E-07 Ice Bot - small purple robot that sprays ice
- E-08 Kart Kiki - robot that drives bumper cars
- E-09 Buyoon - balloon robot that can only be destroyed by the head
- E-10 Cop Speeder - robot that chases you
- E-15 Spiky Spinner (Spiked Spina) - same as e-06
- E-16 Electro Spinner (Thunder Spina) - same as e-06--emits electricity
- E-17 Ghora - red sphere robot with flames circling it
- E-19 Egg Keeper
- E-22 Beat
- E-24 Jetso
- E-25 Duo Jet
- E-26 Bomb Jet
- E-27 Hyper Jet
- E-28 Mecha Fish
- E-29 Egg Pirate
E-100 Series
Unlike many of Eggman's robots, in Sonic Adventure or previous games, the E-100 series were important characters in their own right. They were gunner robots, still in the developmental stages. The most prominent was E-102 Gamma, who was a playable character during the game.
Main E-100 Series robots from Sonic Adventure include:
- E-100 Zero
- E-101 Beta (later remodeled as E-101 MK II)
- E-102 Gamma
- E-103 Delta
- E-104 Epsilon
- E-105 Zeta
On Sonic X, Beta replaced much of Zeta's role. So much, in fact, that Zeta only appears on the show in Episode 31, "Revenge of the Robot", when Gamma comes to the Hot Shelter to destroy him.
Sonic Adventure 2 Robots
Further E-series robots appeared in the game Sonic Adventure 2. Notably, the E-1000 was an upgrade of E-102 Gamma, though in this game it served as a normal badnik-style enemy and has two cannon arms instead of one machine gun arm and one normal arm.
- E-20 Kiki - a monkey robot that throws bombs.
- E-31 Gola - red sphere robots with flames floating around them.
- E-32 Unidus - black sphere bots with spiked balls floating around them
E-1000
- Main article: E-1000
The E-1000 models resembled E-102 Gamma with two cannon arms. They shoot like crazy and seem to lack any higher awareness, so Doctor Eggman probably removed all individuality from the final design.
Sonic Heroes Robots
Yet more E-models appeared in the game Sonic Heroes, though by this time Doctor Eggman had progressed to an E-1000 (and E-2000) series of robots, rendering all previous constructions of his obsolete. The only exception to this was E-123 Omega, who was an individualistic playable character, much like E-102 Gamma.
- E-1001 Egg Pawn - Orange Eggman-shaped robots that carry various weapons
- E-1002 Egg Flapper - multicolored flying robots with various weapons
- E-1003 Cameron - turtle bots with cannons
- E-1004 Klagen - jellyfish bots that grab your team members
- E-1005 Egg Knight - gold Egg Pawns that lead armies of enemies
- E-1006 Egg Hammer - giant black robots with hammers
- E-1007 Heavy Egg Hammer - armored Egg Hammers
- E-1008 Falco - bird robots that look like the Egg Hawk
- E-1009 Egg Bishop - Egg Pawns that can heal other roobots
- E-1010 Egg Magician - Egg Pawns that can steal rings
- E-1011 Casino Pawn - Egg Pawns Found in Zone 3
- E-1012 Rhino Liner - mini train cars reminiscent of Rhino-Tank
- E-1013 Rook
- E-2000 - Red or yellow armored robots with laser guns
Other Games
Sonic Battle
- E-121 Phi - Gray clones of Emerl, the Gizoid
- E-102 "y" Chaos Gamma - Upgrade of Gamma with two weapon arms
Sonic Riders
Sonic Riders included the E-10000 series; two of which, E-10000R and E-10000G, were unlockable playable characters.
- E-10000R - A red humanoid robot wearing what appears to be a baseball cap
- E-10000G - A green version of E-10000R
- E-10000Y - A maintenance robot in Ice Factory
- E-10000P - Purple robots seen on a production line in Egg Factory
Sonic X Robots
