From Sonic Retro
Adventure Fields (アドベンチャーフィールド) are the hub areas of Sonic Adventure and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). These are not traditional Sonic levels, containing neither linear path(s) nor a concrete objective, but rather they connect the traditional levels (Action Stages) to each other and the Chao Gardens, as well as being the setting for various sidequests and boss fights. In this way these titles incorporated RPG elements on top of the standard fare of high-speed platforming.
Transit between these hub worlds, and accessing different locations within them, become easier as the game progress, with power-ups and plot events opening up more areas.
Instead of Adventure Fields, Sonic Unleashed took a more streamlined approach, and gave every level its own hub world, where the same events could take place as they did in the Adventure Fields, but these events could now be specific to the level the hub world is with. Games from Sonic Colours onward eliminated the hubs altogether, opting for level maps instead, until the adoption of "Open Zones" in Sonic Frontiers.
There are three seperate Adventure Fields in Sonic Adventure, namely:
- Station Square, a bustling human city - leads to Emerald Coast, Casinopolis, Twinkle Park and Speed Highway
- Mystic Ruins, ancient temples in the jungle - leads to Windy Valley, Ice Cap, Sky Chase Acts 1 and 2, Red Mountain, Lost World, Final Egg, and Sand Hill.
- Egg Carrier, Eggman's vast flying fortress - leads to Sky Deck and Hot Shelter
There are also three Adventure Fields in Sonic 06, named Town Stages:
- Castle Town, the main overworld of the game - leads to Wave Ocean and Dusty Desert
- Soleanna Forest, a vast expansive forest - leads to Kingdom Valley and Tropical Jungle
- New City, a new upcoming industrial area - leads to White Acropolis and Radical Train
