Sonic Adventure - NPC Script (Hint Orb)

Note: All boss hints for Sonic will also appear and act the same in Metal Sonic's Boss Trial mode, which is only available for the DX version.


There are 3 Hint Orbs in the Station Square Chao Garden, Dreamcast version only. Most orbs in the game will reappear some time after touching them, but these will only reappear when the room is reentered.


In front of you upon entry:


This is the Chao Garden.


If you bring the eggs you find all
over the world, a Chao will be born.


To the right of the entrance:


If you give a Chao a small animal,
the Chao changes.


Try experimenting using
different animals.


To the sharp-left corner of the entrance:


The egg will hatch
naturally after a while.


You can also help the egg to hatch.


Depending on how you hatch the egg,


the characteristics of
the Chao will be affected.


Sonic

Chaos 0

After no initial damage to Chaos for a minute:


Aim for the weak spot on his head.


Immediately after losing a life:


Jump up, then press the jump button
again to do the Homing Attack!


Stage 1, Emerald Coast

The Hint Orb beside Mystic Ruin's station says the same as the other orb, if you didn't destroy the Baby Kiki yet. Destroying the Baby Kiki will make both Hint Orbs disappear.

Egg Viper

This hint will not appear on your first life but can appear once per life after the first. It should appear after not landing on one of Eggman's "spinning needles" for 5 seconds. If for some reason it doesn't appear, and you haven't landed on a needle, it's still possible for the message to appear after stalling for at least 5 seconds on Eggman's next "spinning needles" attack (and the next one and the next one if it still doesn't appear). For the particular life you're on, the hint will never appear if you have landed on top of a spinning needle (or, if you jump over it, sometimes the game believes it was a landing).


Aim for the legs
and make it lose its balance.


Hint Orb, when the Egg Viper is malfunctioning near the end of the battle, it'll appear every time on any life:

Egg Walker

After not initially paralyzing any of the legs for 1 and a half minutes or immediately after losing a life. If the player has already paralyzed a leg then it won't appear either way. Performing one way of triggering the hint and then the other will not make the hint appear twice.


Aim for the legs
and make it lose its balance.


After constantly paralyzing the legs (most often after 3 times, but it can happen after 2, 4, or 5 times) but never actually causing initial damage to the Egg Walker. Unlike other bosses, if initial damage has been done, then the message will not appear even after a life or lives.


Don't just aim for the legs.
Aim for the cockpit!
