Sonic Adventure - NPC Script (Tails)

From Sonic Retro

[Upon first control]
Station Square, Day
Pool Area

Twin females, blue swimsuit

Left:
Oh, so you're the guy
from that plane crash?

Are you really okay?

Right:
Yep, this is it!

Sunny days! Clear skies!

This is what summer
vacation's all about!

Hotel
Hotel Manager:

If you take the left elevator,
you'll find a Chao Garden.

Chao are so cute.

Station Area

Businessman, along coastline, near hotel entrance:

What do you think of the
view from the station?

I love the ocean.

The ocean's always
there for me.

Purple girl, right of train station's entrance:

Have you heard?

Somewhere out there is a
man called Dr. Robotnik.

He nabs helpless animals
and traps them in machines.

Oh! Those poor animals.

Pinky and Spiffy standing to each other as a couple beside the Twinkle Park elevator

Pinky (left):
Goodbye, old relationship.
Hello, new relationship!

That's what I always say!

Spiffy (right):
La la la, we're in love.

They're having a special
at Twinkle Park.

Whoops, it's too early
for you, huh?

Owner of Cyber-Net Inc.:

There are many tall
buildings in Station Square.

But none as big or
beautiful as MY building.

Ha ha ha ha!

Newsstand Saleswoman:

I'm the newsstand saleswoman.

I'm the first one to read
the news,

so I've got all the dirt.

Station, Main Deck

Mr. Know-It-All:

I'm Mr. Know-It-All. Let me
give you a little advice...

Press the jump button

while you're in mid-jump
and you can fly!

But remember, you'll fall
when you get tired.

Did you know that?

Hat woman, near the front doorway, beside Mr. Know-It-All:

Finally! Station Square.

I'm gonna hit the beach, the casino, and Twinkle Park!

Spiffy, by the wall at the right:

If you wanna go to the
Mystic Ruins, take the train.

If you're doing research,
the trip's free.

Of course,

only a real adventurer takes
a trip to such a remote place.

Station, Upper Deck

Purple girl's dad:

Look around, the train's
packed with exhausted people.

But look at me!
I'm full of energy.

Station worker:

Hard work, low pay...
What's the point?

Oh, a customer, excuse me.

This train's going to the
Mystic Ruins.

Mystic Ruins, Day
Main Area

Man with binoculars, in front of station:

We're the exploration
party searching for the ruins.

I'm still new here,

so they don't let me do
anything fun.

Backpacker, looking towards the blocked off West Cave:

When I got up this morning,

the mountain was already
here.

I don't think it erupted
from the ground.

So it must have fallen
from the sky.

I know that sounds crazy.

Mustache, glasses, by hut:

We heard that the ruins of
an ancient civilization are here,

so we came to explore.

Man with binoculars, next to the Windy Cave:

[first time]

That's Tails' house
on top of the hill.

Well, really it's more
like his workshop.

[after first time]

That's Tails' workshop
on top of the hill.

Now I know.

Backpacker, near East Cave:

I found this strange stone
on top of the hill.

What the heck is it?
Maybe I should report it...

[after defeating the Egg Hornet]
Mystic Ruins, Day
Main Area

Man with binoculars, in front of station:

We're the exploration
party for searching for the ruins.

Our motto is "Go anywhere.
Search everywhere.

Discover everything."

Backpacker, looking towards the blocked off West Cave:

Man, I have to figure out
where the mountain came from!

But how? It's baffling.

Mustache, glasses, by hut:

This is our base camp.

Another party has already
gone into the jungle.

Until we hear from them,
we can't use the trolley.

Man with binoculars, next to the Windy Cave:

I saw this weird plate
in the cave.

And on it, in an ancient
inscription,

was the word "Wind."

I bet it's a clue to
something.

Man with binoculars, next to the Windy Cave, while holding the Wind Stone:

Hey, that shiny mark on
your stone...

It looks just like the
mark on the plate

I found in the cave.

Is it possible...?
Could it be...?

Backpacker, near East Cave:

I found this strange stone
on top of the hill.

I planned to leave it alone
until I could tell our leader.

Backpacker, near East Cave, while holding the Wind Stone:

Hey! that's the stone I [sic]
found!

Y-You're not gonna take
it away, are you?

[after defeating the Egg Hornet, before completing Stage 1, Windy Valley]
Station Square, Day
Station Area

[everyone's dialogue is the same except for]

Purple girl, right of train station's entrance:

Are you looking for the
Chaos Emeralds?

If you're on a treasure
hunt,

the Mystic Ruins is the
place to be.

It's supposed to be
full of explorers.

[after completing Stage 1, Windy Valley]
Mystic Ruins, Day
Main Area

[all dialogue is the same as before except the ones noted below]

Backpacker, looking towards the blocked off West Cave:

We're stumped.

We're trying to figure out

how this mountain appeared
out of nowhere.

Backpacker, near East Cave:

Yeah, I've been an
explorer for 2 and a half years.

Chaos Emerald?
Sorry, never heard of it.

Not very likely you'll
find it around here.

Station Square, Night
Station, Upper Deck

Going back to Mystic Ruins during the night will also turn Mystic Ruins to night. No differences in dialogue occur, though.

Station worker:

I have to work all night...
and with no overtime!

Oh, a customer, excuse me.

Watch your step.

Mr. Know-It-All

I'm Mr. Know-It-All. Let me
give you a little advice...

If you're totally stuck,
quit and restart.

You might remember
something you'd forgotten.

Didn't know that, did ya'?

Station, Main Deck

Newsstand Saleswoman:

C'mon!
Even I go home at night.

I commute too, you know.

Station Area

Mature girl strolling around perimeter:

I'm pretty mature for my age,
so I can stay out late.

Oh, you're just like me!
We click.

Businesswoman strolling around perimeter:

My husband is an adventurer.

When he leaves home you never
know when he'll be back.

He's probably at the Mystic
Ruins looking for old relics.

Hipster strolling around perimeter:

Hey! Wanna give the
casino a try?

You might just win
some money, gems...

or at least have
some laughs.

At least,
that's what I heard...

Purple girl, right of train station's entrance:

I'm waiting for my dad.

I hope he gets home soon.

Did he stay at the
office again?

Dad...

Old businessman standing next to Purple Girl; not her dad:

I told her, "It's late.
Go home."

But she won't listen.

I just hope she doesn't
worry her parents.

Owner of Cyber-Net Inc.:

I heard there's a new
pinball machine at the casino.

It's called "Nights into
Dreams." I wanna play, too.

Twin Pinkies standing beside Twinkle Park's elevator.

Left:
Twinkle Park's neat, but
Casinopolis is cool, too.

I'm so indecisive.

Right:
Chao are really cute.
Did you cuddle one?

Oh, you're cute too.

Very cute.

Businessman, along coastline, near hotel entrance:

The sun has gone down.

The stars are coming out.

Hotel
Hotel Manager:

The door on the left leads
to the casino.

Take your time... Have fun!

City Hall Area

Statue Girl strolling around perimeter (She will always appear in City Hall and her script will stay the same, however, the script is different for each player character. To prevent redundancy she won't be listed again for the rest of this article.) :

Oh my, they put one
over on me!

It's just the statue in
front of the Burger Shop.

It sure looks real to me.

Owner of antique shop:

Oh, it's you, Tails. Welcome!

Haven't seen you for a while.
How's it goin'?

Businessman walking around perimeter:

What's up with that girl?

She's been standing there
all day

just staring into the
Burger Shop.

Shy businesswoman, standing at the center of the area:

My heart's breaking.

I can't just keep
staring at him.

I have to talk to that guy
in the Burger Shop.

Male Burger Shop worker:

Working out here like
this...

I feel like somebody's
staring at me.

What is that?

Casino Area

Son, standing beside the station's back stairway:

Waaaugh!

My mom went to the casino
and hasn't come out yet.

Hat Woman, on the lot, looking at the casino:

Wow...

Neon lights! Funky music!

So this is the casino
everyone's been talking about.

But it's a bit too much
for me. I think I'll pass...

[after completing Stage 2, Casinopolis]
Station Square, Day
Casino Area

Old businessman walking around perimeter:

I think I saw something shiny
in the alley.

Should I go check it out?

Mother and Son standing beside the station's back stairway

Mother:
What? The casino?

What makes you think
I'd wanna go there?

Son:
...

I need to talk to my mom!

Station, Main Deck

Spiffy, right wall:

Soon as this job's done,
I wanna go snowboarding.

Fly through the snow at
killer speed.

It's a really great
feeling.

Station, Upper Deck

Station worker:

......

Oh, a customer, excuse me.

My mind was someplace else.
Ha ha ha.

Station Area

Businessman, along coastline, near hotel entrance:

It's crazy!

That guy's going out with
a different girl today?!

That is so enviable... er,
I mean unforgivable!

Big the Cat, next to said businessman:

Froggy? Where are you?

Spiffy and Hat Woman as a couple, standing beside the Twinkle Park elevator.

Hat Woman (left):
I'm not sure I deserve to
be this happy.

Spiffy (right):
La la la, we're in love.

Of course, she's the
only one for me.

Owner of Cyber-Net Inc.:

Even if the casino becomes
a huge success

or they build a new
amusement park,

The city's symbol of status
will always be my building.

Ha ha ha ha!

Purple girl, right of train station's entrance:

I waited a long time,
but my dad never

came home last night.

It's always like this
when he's busy.

I wish he'd come home soon.

Businesswoman strolling around perimeter:

My husband is an adventurer.
He's probably at the Mystic

Ruins now... I wonder if
he won't come back

'til he finds a relic...

Newsstand Saleswoman:

It's a new day!
And today's paper says:

Mysterious stone was
discovered in the alley

next to the casino.

The world's full of
mysteries, isn't it?

City Hall Area

Businessman walking around perimeter:

That girl finally went into
the Burger Shop, but...

She seemed hungry, but now
she's just standing there.

Maybe she's trying to decide
what she wants...

Old businessman walking around perimeter:

Station Square's a hub.
You know,

it connects to many
satellite cities.

Owner of antique shop:

Time rolls on and nothing
changes...

Running the antique shop
is my way of coping, I guess.

Shy businesswoman, inside the Burger Shop, standing towards the right side:

Finally,
I'm inside the shop!

Now what do I do?

I'm so scared,
my heart's pounding.

Male Burger Shop worker:

Brrr!

It's not just being
stared at.

I can feel a chill
running up my spine.

Hotel
Hotel Manager:

That girl standing in
front of the station...

She waits for her father
every day. How sweet.

Pool Area

Twin females, blue swimsuits

Left:
She and I are twins.

You wouldn't know it from
our personalities, though.

Right:
Twinkle Park is so much fun!

Tonight I'm gonna win big
at the casino!

Hat woman, at the farthest corner away from the pool/hotel entrance:

Wow!
That's a fabulous pool.

But I didn't bring my
swimsuit. Darn!

Mystic Ruins, Day
Main Area

Man with binoculars, in front of station:

We're the exploration
party searching for the ruins.

We discovered an entrance
in the mountains.

Backpacker, instead of being outside looking at the West Cave that used to be blocked off, he is now inside the cave next to the wind elevator:

The rocks crumbled and
revealed an entrance

to a cave.

The soil here's a lot
like the soil

at the Mystic Ruins...

Mustache, glasses, by hut:

A huge cave appeared
out of nowhere... Overnight!

We better investigate it.

Man with binoculars, next to the Windy Cave:

I heard something about an
island falling

out of the sky.

I didn't believe it at
first, but maybe that

mountain near the station
really is...

Backpacker, near East Cave:

I joined the expedition so
I could help

make some big discovery!

So maybe my name could appear
in somebody's text book!

Backpacker, near East Cave, while holding the Ice Stone:

Hey! That's it!
That's my big discovery!

Actually, it's a lot like
mine, but a little different.

[after completing Stage 3, IceCap]
Mystic Ruins, Day
Main Area

Man with binoculars, in front of station:

Who was that with the long
legs and red body?

I think he headed toward
the waterfall.

Backpacker in West Cave:

After studying it,

I found it's similar
to the stratum.

But actually, it's part of
the border.

There's a difference.

It's pretty interesting.

Backpacker, near East Cave:

[same as previous]

[before defeating Knuckles]
Station Square, Day

[all dialogue of the NPCs are the same as before except the following]

Station Area

Newsstand Saleswoman:

You are so impatient!

It doesn't matter how
much you bug me,

the paper's not here yet.

Just wait for the evening
edition, okay?

Casino Area

Old businessman walking around perimeter:

This is the place.

Nobody around at noon.
Perfect for a walk.

[after defeating Knuckles and Chaos 4]
Mystic Ruins, Day
Main Area

Knuckles, standing in front of the Egg Hornet Boss Field isle:

What's the matter?
What are you waiting for!?

Man with binoculars, in front of station:

We were stunned.

What kind of plane was that?

Backpacker in West Cave:

[same as previous]

Mustache, glasses, by hut:

I was petrified!

Man with binoculars, next to the Windy Cave:

What the... What was that?

I couldn't believe my eyes.

Backpacker, near East Cave:

I swear I just a saw a ship
fly by!

Aaagh!

[after completing Sky Chase, Act 1]
Mystic Ruins, Sunset
Main Area

[Station Square is currently locked]

Man with binoculars, in front of station:

We're the exploration
party searching for the ruins.

I think the trains are on
strike.

Backpacker in West Cave:

Looks like a dead end.

You can always try to
ride the wind...

You never know where it
might take you.

Way too scary for me!

Mustache, glasses, by hut:

Since the first party
didn't report back,

we're sending out a
second party.

I fixed the trolley so it
should work now.

So, are we all ready for a
serious trek into the jungle?

Man with binoculars, next to the Windy Cave:

I was surprised to see
that huge ship...

But I was even more shocked to see
you fall out of the sky!

Are you okay?

Backpacker, near East Cave:

I think they're putting a
second party together.

I hope they pick me so I can
finally go into the jungle.

Jungle

Backpacker, eastern edge:

Hey!

I found a mega-huge footprint!

I bet there's a big,
mysterious creature lurking

around here!

Man with binoculars, approximately southeastern of level map:

I've been in the jungle
for months...

And my wife is in Station
Square.

I am so lonely without her.

Mustache, glasses, about northeastern of level map:

I've been an explorer for
25 years!

And my sixth sense tells
me I'm close.

[after completing Sand Hill]
The Past, Day

Tribesman, on the second floor, west of the shrine:

The Chief's daughter loved
her grandmother so much.

The country was a lot smaller
back when Grandma was alive.

But the Chief wanted
to expand his kingdom.

After Grandma's death,
he made his move...

He did well.

He quickly took over
the surrounding areas.

But his daughter didn't like
what he'd done...

The daughter? I saw
her in front of the shrine.

Tribesman, on the second floor, east of the shrine:

Our Chief is Pachacamac.
He's fearless.

Brave. Bold. With him,
we can never lose.

We owe everything
to Pachacamac.

Tribesman, on the first floor, north of the shrine:

Our tribe has dealt with
war for a long time.

Fighting has made us rich.

But our ruler's daughter
doesn't agree with us.

The daughter? I saw
her in front of the shrine.

Various tribesmen circling around the shrine. Upon entry there's 40 of them, every two assigned for each script. If the game is reset, has been 'quit', or the player goes to the Altar of Emerald area and back, then the tribesmen will be reduced to 20, one for each script:

A good offense is the
best defense!

Full steam ahead!

Grrrr!

Hey! Look out!
Get out of the way!

Hit 'em when they least
expect it! That's my motto.

Is this life a dream?
Or is it reality?

I like fighting!
Actually, I love fighting!

I think, therefore I am.

I've never been scared of
anything my whole life!

Is there anyone or
anything capable

of making me feel scared?

Just watch...
I'll get them all!

Life is always changing,
and is never permanent.

But our prosperity will
never end.

Miracles come from within!

Move! MOVE IT!
Everyone, stand back!

Never gloat in victory.

We must proceed discreetly.

But we always do
just the opposite!

We're too hyper!

Well, well, well!

Well... I...
I just can't sit still!

You have no idea what
fighting is all about.

You just attack!

Yo-ho! Yo-ho!

[coming back to the present]
Mystic Ruins, Night
Main Area

Man with binoculars, in front of station:

We're the exploration
party searching for the ruins.

Even if the others go,

they'll probably make me
stay here.

When are they gonna start
treating me like a

real part of the group?

Backpacker in West Cave:

[same as previous]

Mustache, glasses, by hut:

Something's waiting for
us, deep in the jungle...

Man with binoculars, next to the Windy Cave:

When it's quiet at night,

I can hear construction
noises.

Is somebody building a
subway around here?

Backpacker, near East Cave:

I think they're putting a
second party together.

I hope they pick me so I can
finally go into the junge.

Who knows what's out there?
I'm totally excited.

Jungle

Backpacker, eastern edge:

Hey!

I found a mega-huge footprint!

This big, mysterious
creature...

Whatcha' say I name it!
"Bigfoot?"

Man with binoculars, approximately southeastern of level map:

If we found some gems, or
relics or something,

my wife would be so
thrilled...

Mustache, glasses, about northeastern of level map:

I've been an explorer for
25 years!

And I've been lost in this
jungle for all 25 of them...

I suppose I should find
another career.

[after defeating E-102 Gamma, the game will force you into playing Stage 5, Speed Highway after a sequence of cutscenes. You must either reset the console or quit out of Speed Highway to talk to the NPCs at this time. You will be unable to see the script if you complete Speed Highway]

Station Square, Sunset
Main Area

Businesswoman, along coastline, near hotel entrance:

A m-m-missile appeared,
and...

Whaaaaa!!

Mother and Son, in front of the train station

Mother (left):
If I'm gonna die,

I might as well spend all
the money I've been saving.

Whoops... I already spent
it all, I'm cleaned out.

Son (right):
I saw it! I saw Robotnik's
missile!

Tails! You gotta save
Station Square!

Robotnik's heading toward
that big skyscraper!

Newsstand Saleswoman:

Oh no! I'm not just
seeing things!

A huge missile's heading
for Station Square!

We're all gonna die!

City Hall Area

Purple girl and her Dad, standing at the center of the map on the grass

Purple (left):
What? What happened?

Just when my dad got home!

Dad (right):
This is my wonderful
daughter.

She keeps me young
and optimistic

no matter how old I get.

Nothing's gonna stop me
from enjoying life...

Except maybe that
missile..!

Owner of antique shop:

It's a quiet shop.
Not many customers, ya' know.

But that's okay with me.
I like it like this.

Shy businesswoman, inside the Burger Shop, standing towards the right side:

Oh, uh, well, uh...

No, I can't do it.
I can't even talk.

I'm such a coward!
A total wimp!

Male Burger Shop worker:

Strange...

You don't see a lot of
customers who are

too nervous to buy a burger.

Station, Upper Deck

[the P.A. (public address system) says that there are "No trains currently in service," but, they're in service]

Twin Pinkies, towards the left of the balcony:

Left:
I saw it! I just saw it!

I can't take this town,
not for one more second!

Right:
I didn't believe it at first.

But the whole town's
panicking.

You should get out of
here, fast!

Station worker:

Uh oh, we're in trouble
now.

All aboard for the
Mystic Ruins.

Everybody's rushing to
get out of town, hurry!

Casino Area

At the right of the hotel's doorway outside in the Casino Area lies a businessman and Pinky talking to each other.

Businessman:
Never expect too much.

If you expect too much,

you'll just get hurt
when you get dumped.

Pinky:
It's not that I think I'm
so great...

I'm so shy, that I
sometimes avoid people.

Hotel
Hotel Manager:

Looks like something's going
down out there again.

But I can't leave here, so
I don't have a clue

to what it may be.

It hasn't sunk.
It's just floating there.

Newsstand Saleswoman:

Wow, Tails, great work!

You just earned my respect.

City Hall Area
