Sonic Adventure - NPC Script (Big)

From Sonic Retro

There are 4 "Lure Powerup" upgrades obtainable in Big's story. Unlike other upgrades, a cutscene will not play and the Hint Orb will not speak of your upgrade. For all rods, the following message appears when obtained:

Lure powerup!

Use this to catch bigger fish!

Station Square, Day
Station Area

[Station, Hotel, and Pool Area are currently inaccessible]
[Casino Area will never be accessible in Big's story]

Sonic and Tails standing near the hotel, on the center grassy area

Sonic (right):
Eggman!!!

Tails (left):
Quick! We have to find the rest
of the missing Chaos Emeralds!

Mr. Know-It-All, near the Hint Orb:

I'm Mr. Know-It-All.
Let me give you some advice.

When you're fishing, you
gotta wiggle the lure.

That will attract fish.

When something bites,
press down on the Control Stick.

And tug the rod according to
the movements of the fish.

Don't fight 'em.

Eventually, the fish'll
tire out and he's yours.

Learn something new everyday,
huh?

Purple girl, right of train station's entrance:

Wow! What a huge cat!

Meow!

Spiffy, in front of the train station:

The train station isn't
open yet.

The staff doesn't take
time very seriously,

as you can see.

Businesswoman strolling around perimeter:

A frog. Yeah, I saw him.

He hopped off toward
city hall.

Owner of Cyber-Net Inc.:

[first time]

Frog? S-s-stop it!

I hate frogs! Just hearing
the word gives me the creeps.

I'm begging you, please,

don't say that word
anymore when I'm around.

[after first time]

C'mon, seriously? Stop
talking about that frog!

Oh no! Noooo!

Newsstand Saleswoman:

Today's paper says...

Mysterious person leaves
a manhole cover open!

I hear City Hall's getting
a ton of complaints.

Sure, it stinks... plus it's
really dangerous

if someone falls in.

City Hall

Statue Girl strolling around perimeter (She will always appear in City Hall and her script will stay the same, however, the script is different for each player character. To prevent redundancy she won't be listed again for the rest of this article.) :

Did it fool ya?

It's just the statue in
front of the Burger Shop.

Don't even think of
throwing it into the river!

Old businessman walking around perimeter:

A frog has been hopping
all over Station Square.

I wonder if it has
anything to do with

the open manhole cover?

Businessman walking around perimeter:

A frog?
Yeah, I just saw him.

He's gotta be around
here somewhere.

Owner of antique shop:

Hi.

Say, that's a nice
fishing rod.

Twin pig-tailed girl:

Whoa... would ya' look at
those muscles.

You're so buff.

I bet you can lift almost
anything, huh?

C'mon, show us what you
can do.

Shy businesswoman, inside the Burger Shop, standing towards the right side:

F-Finally I'm inside the shop!

Now what do I do?

I'm so scared, my heart's
pounding like a jackhammer.

Male Burger Shop worker:

Shoot, look at the size of
that customer!

How many burgers can you
eat at one time?

[after completing Stage 1, Twinkle Park; Ice Stone will spawn behind Twinkle Park's elevator]
Station Square, Day

Station Area
[Hotel currently inaccessible]

Amy, standing beside the train station's right-side wall:

(Yawn) I'm so bored! I guess
I'll go shopping or something.

Owner of Cyber-Net Inc., standing beside Twinkle Park's elevator:

Yikes!

A frog just leapt out of
that elevator!

Mr. Know-It-All, near the Hint Orb:

I'm Mr. Know-It-All.
Let me give you some advice.

Hold down the L and R Buttons
if you are having trouble

attracting fish.

Your lure will come right
back to you.

Bet you didn't know that.

Purple girl, right of train station's entrance:

Froggy?
He went into the train station.

Maybe he took the train
somewhere?

Businesswoman strolling around perimeter:

Did you see that
strange stone?

It's so creepy-looking

nobody even wants to
touch it.

Newsstand Saleswoman:

It's a new beginning!
And today's paper says...

Mysterious stone has been
found near Twinkle Park!

Authorities are investigating
to determine its origin.

Wow, the world's just full
of mysteries, isn't it?

Hipster strolling around perimeter:

Hey dude! That lure bites!

I saw a fab lure
the other day.

You should check it
out, man...

You won't be disappointed.

City Hall Area

Old businessman walking around perimeter:

Oh, fishing.
That is totally cool!

Businessman walking around perimeter:

A frog? I have no idea where
he went after he left here.

Owner of antique shop:

Time goes on, nothing ever
stays the same...

Running the antique shop is
keeping my corner of the past,

I guess.

Shy businesswoman, inside the Burger Shop, standing towards the right side:

My heart is beating so fast
I can barely move.

C'mon! Don't be wimp.
Take a step.

Male Burger Shop worker:

Working here...

I feel like somebody's
staring at me.

What is that?

Station, Main Deck

Two Station Workers standing near the curvy, left counter

Left:
[first time]

To protect our rights as
workers,

we're thinking about
going on strike.

But it's a secret.

[after first time]

I take pride in being able to
keep my mouth shut.

I can keep a secret no
matter what.

Right:
You talk about doing things
too much...

It's better just to do it!

Spiffy, right wall:

Commuting's a pain.

But I really don't want to
move just to be close to work.

But the longer I complain
about it, the later it gets...

Mystic Ruins, Day
Main Area

Knuckles, standing near the hut:

Didn't I see a green colored
stone somewhere?

Man with binoculars, in front of station:

We're the exploration
party searching for the ruins.

I think I saw a frog
heading for the caves.

Pretty weird, huh?

Backpacker in West Cave:

The rocks crumbled, and
revealed the entrance

to a cave.

Then we saw a frog
heading inside.

C'mon!
Let's follow that frog!

Mustache, glasses, by hut:

A huge cave appeared
out of nowhere... Overnight!

We better investigate it.

Man with binoculars, next to the Windy Cave:

I heard something about
an island

falling out of the sky.

I didn't believe it,
but maybe it is true.

The mountain near the
station could be the...

Backpacker, near East Cave:

I discovered a Chao Garden
in the Mystic Ruins!

It's deep inside the
caves...

but don't tell anybody
else, okay?

Jungle

Backpacker, eastern edge:

[first time]

Hey! I found a mega-huge
footprint!

I bet there's a big,
mysterious creature

lurking out there!

Is it... Is it you?

[after first time]

Um, a dream of a huge,
mysterious creature...

That big cat with the
fishing pole was weird, too.

What's going on?

Man with binoculars, approximately southeastern of level map:

I've been in the jungle now
for quite some time...

My wife is living near
Station Square.

I can't wait to see her
smiling face again!

I've lost all desire to
complete this expedition!

Mustache, glasses, about northeastern of level map:

I've been an explorer
for 25 years!

Yikes!! A bear! Pretend
I'm dead... play dead!

What? You're not a bear?

[after completing Stage 2, Icecap]
Mystic Ruins, Night
Main Area

Tails, near, yet far, from the hut:

Sorry, if I had only held on tighter...

Man with binoculars, in front of station:

We're the exploration
party searching for the ruins.

When the strike ended,
I saw a frog heading up

to the station. Maybe he
needed to catch a train?

Ha ha ha!
That's silly.

Backpacker in West Cave:

After studying it,

I found it's similar
  to the stratum.

But actually, it's part
of the border.

There's a difference.

It's pretty interesting.

Mustache, glasses, by hut:

Since the first party
didn't report back,

we're sending out a
second party.

I fixed the trolley so it
should work.

So, are you guys all ready
for a serious trek

into the jungle?

Man with binoculars, next to the Windy Cave:

I was totally surprised to
see that huge plane,

and even more shocked when
I saw Tails

falling from the sky!

But I was completely
blown away

when Tails just got up
and walked away!

Backpacker, near East Cave:

I think they're organizing
another search party.

I hope they pick me so I
can finally hit the jungle.

Jungle

Backpacker, eastern edge:

[Same as previous. If the player has spoken to this NPC beforehand, for example, before playing IceCap, then the NPC will still persist in only speaking its 'after first time' script.]

Man with binoculars, approximately southeastern of level map:

I've been in the jungle
forever!

My wife is in Station Square.

I feel so lonely I could cry!

Mustache, glasses, about northeastern of level map:

I've been an explorer
for 25 years!

And I've been lost in this
jungle for all 25 of them...

Guess my instincts aren't
what they used to be...

Station Square, Day

[going back to Mystic Ruins will also turn to Day; no other changes]

Station, Upper Deck

Station worker:

The labor talks went well
and the strike's over.

We're sorry for any problems
this may have caused.

Station, Main Deck

Sonic, looking toward the station's closed door that'd lead to the Casino Area:

That robot...!!
I'd better go after Amy!

Spiffy, right wall:

The strike's over!

That's great. (Sigh)

Station Area

Mr. Know-It-All, near the Hint Orb:

I'm Mr. Know-It-All.
Let me give you some advice.

The waters here are protected,
part of a preserve. Ya' know?

It means you can't fish here.

Bet you didn't know that...
did ya'?

Purple girl, right of train station's entrance:

I wonder what's Dad doing now?

Hat woman strolling around perimeter:

Are you looking for a frog?

If you mean the frog with
the long tail,

I saw him in front
of the hotel.

Black kid strolling around perimeter:

{{yellow:[same as previous]}}

Newsstand Saleswoman:

The strike's over.

I didn't read it in the
paper, I was actually there!

I guess they resolved it
pretty quickly,

but it sure seemed to take
forever.

Owner of Cyber-Net Inc.:

That's it!

I'm telling you, I don't
know anything about

any creature that "ribits"
and hops.

City Hall

Businessman, along coastline, near hotel entrance:

Yeah, it's a pretty noisy
town, but I like it that way.

Means it's never boring,
right?

Shy businesswoman, inside the Burger Shop, standing towards the right side:

Nothing'll change if
I don't do something.

Brave. I gotta be brave.

Male Burger Shop worker:

Welcome!

Looking at me with that
shifty stare... but I'm cool!

I do my job.

Owner of antique shop:

This is the business
district.

Nice place, but not great
for eating out.

Unless you like eating
hamburgers everyday.

Hotel

Hotel Manager's Substitute? Appearance same as a blue-wearing businessman:

Hello, sir! You're
looking for... Mr. Froggy?

I'm afraid that no one by
that name is staying

at the hotel.

Pool Area

Twin females, blue swimsuits

Left:
A frog?

I saw him hopping off
toward the beach.

Right:
What's with the hotel?

They shouldn't allow frogs to
just hop all over the place.

[after completing Stage 3, Emerald Coast, boarding the Egg Carrier, and completing Stage 4, Hot Shelter]
The Past, Day

Tribesman, on the second floor, west of the shrine:

The Chief's daughter
always seems to be hanging

around the altar.

Perhaps she knows how to
break through the

sacred barrier!

A tribesman also on a second floor, west of the shrine, facing the wall:

I've heard the Chief's
daughter reciting

something over and over,
like a poem...

Don't ask me what it
means, though.

Tribesman, on the second floor, east of the shrine:

Chao are little,
jelly-like creatures.

They aren't dangerous
or anything...

And they're so cute...!

Tribesman, on the first floor, north of the shrine:

There's an altar in front
of the gate.

The 7 Emeralds are there.

With those 7 Emeralds...

all our dreams will come true.

Various tribesmen circling around the shrine, 20 in all, one assigned for each script:

A good offense is the
best defense!

Full steam ahead!

Grrrr!

Hey! Look out!
Get out of the way!

Hit 'em when they least
expect it! That's my motto.

Is this life a dream?
Or is it reality?

I like fighting!
Actually, I love fighting!

I think, therefore I am.

I've never been scared of
anything my whole life!

Is there anyone or
anything capable

of making me feel scared?

Just watch...
I'll get them all!

Life is always changing,
and is never permanent.

But our prosperity will
never end.

Miracles come from within!

Move! MOVE IT!
Everyone, stand back!

Never gloat in victory.

We must proceed discreetly.

But we always do
just the opposite!

We're too hyper!

Well, well, well!

Well... I...
I just can't sit still!

You have no idea what
fighting is all about.

You just attack!

Yo-ho! Yo-ho!

[100% Clear, after returning to the present, defeating Chaos 6, and boarding the Tornado 2]
Station Square, Day
Station Area

Purple girl, right of train station's entrance:

Mr. Cat... Can you teach me
how to fish one of these days?

Owner of Cyber-Net Inc.:

[same as previous]

Newsstand Saleswoman:

I'm sorry, but I don't
sell bait.

Oh, you use lures? Sorry...

City Hall Area

Businessman walking around perimeter:

Hi! You still looking
for that frog?

Owner of antique shop:

Hi!

Nice rod you got there.

Can I check it out?

Shy businesswoman, inside the Burger Shop, standing towards the right side:

[same as previous]

Male Burger Shop worker:

Huh?

Guess you don't get many
customers who are

too nervous too buy anything.

Hotel
Hotel Manager's Substitute?:

Hello... You're looking
for... a Mr. Froggy?

Actually, there is someone
here by the name of Frog...

Oh, never mind.
Sorry 'bout that.

Station, Main Deck

Spiffy, right wall:

Being busy isn't all that
bad.

At least it means you're
needed.

But it can also be quite
stressful.

I don't know what to
think.

Station, Upper Deck
Station worker:

No problems... and right
on schedule!

That's the way I like it.

Mystic Ruins, Day
Main Area

Man with binoculars, in front of station:

We're the exploration
party searching for the ruins.

Even if the rest of 'em
go in,

they'll probably make me
stay here.

When are they gonna start
treating me like a

real member of the party?

Backpacker in West Cave:

Huh? That's interesting. (Looks like the game's missing a line.)

But we came to search
the ruins.

It's too dangerous there.

Mustache, glasses, by hut:

Something's waiting for
us, deep in the jungle...

Man with binoculars, next to the Windy Cave:

When it's quiet at night,

I can hear noises that sound
like a construction site.

I bet it's Tails' secret
workshop.

I wonder what he's up to?

Backpacker, near East Cave:

Then I saw a plane take (Yes, it starts abruptly like that.)
off from the waterfall.

Nothing's gonna shock me
after seeing that.

Jungle

Backpacker, eastern edge:

[Same as previous. If the player has spoken to this NPC beforehand, meaning anytime before boarding the Egg Carrier, then the NPC will still persist in only speaking its 'after first time' script.]

Man with binoculars, approximately southeastern of level map:

I've been in the jungle
for months...

I left my wife in Station
Square.

Oh, how I miss her!

Mustache, glasses, about northeastern of level map:

I've been an explorer
for 25 years!

Hey, you look pretty tough.
Wanna be my assistant?
