The name Mecha Sonic is sometimes used interchangeably with Metal Sonic, though such a mix-up involves (at the least) two different personae of the character, most would say there are two separate characters involved.
His first appearance is in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The robot Sonic in Sonic & Knuckles is usually referred to as Mecha Sonic also.
