BuggernautMedia:Sonic3 MD US SonicJam manual.pdf, or Bun-būn (ブンブーン) in Japan, is a blue mosquito Badnik from Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s Hydrocity Zone. In behaviour, they are very similar to the Whisp. They attack in groups of 2 (an adult mosquito and a young mosquito). When the adult Badnik is destroyed, the smaller one flies away in panic, joining up with any adult Badnik if they see one. They can be easily destroyed by jumping.

Etymologically, Bun-bun is a Japanese word for buzz, whereas the English translation’s name Buggernaut is a (not necessarily family-friendly) pun on the word juggernaut.

They reappear in Sonic Mania, again in Hydrocity Zone, with the same attack pattern.
