The Klagen (クラゲン) is an enemy that first appears in Sonic Heroes. Its name is derived from kurage, the Japanese word for "jellyfish".
They appear in Casino Park (except Team Rose), BINGO Highway, Bullet Station and Lost Jungle for all teams. Additionally, they are present in Robot Carnival and Robot Storm (except Team Rose) for all teams, and Egg Emperor for Team Sonic and Team Chaotix.
These strange robots do not attack, but simply grab and hold one of the player's teammates. If they are not rescued, they cannot be selected to play with. They will eventually release the captured teammate, but not before giving them a quick slap with their tentacles. If all three members are captured by a Klagen, then it's a life loss. Klagen are not very strong and can be taken out with Homing Attack or Thunder Shoot. It has 6HP and awards 200 points when destroyed
There is an upgraded version of the Klagen called the Gold Klagen.
In Sonic Rush, Klagens are common enemies that can be found in Water Palace, though they are not able to capture characters in this game. Instead, they drop bombs on Sonic or Blaze, while the ones found underwater will generate electric shields to defend themselves.
Sonic Generations (Nintendo 3DS)
Klagens return in the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations where they are again found in Water Palace, retaining their attack patterns from Sonic Rush.
