|Fourteenth level, Sonic Heroes|
|Level theme: flying fortress|
|Boss: Egg Emperor|
|← Egg Fleet|
Final Fortress is the fourteenth and final stage in Sonic Heroes. Taking place aboard the immense whale shark flagship of the Egg Fleet, Final Fortress is a forbidding leviathan of steel and lightning, chock-full of bottomless drops, screeching death lasers, and elite enemies - chief amongst them the much-feared Heavy Egg Hammer and E-2000R.
|“||The Egg Carrier is nothing compared to this!||„|
— Knuckles, as the stage opens
The heroes have reached their final destinations and have landed on the whale shark flagship. This enormous engineering feat is the last obstacle that needs to be overcome in order to get Eggman. Team Sonic hopes to stop Eggman's plans for world domination. Team Dark wishes to destroy the flagship and capture Eggman (and his treasure, in Rouge's case). Team Rose are about to rescue Froggy and Chocola, while Team Chaotix are finally going to meet their client in person. This stage creates a minor plot hole in Team Chaotix's story, as they are supposed to collect keys to open the jail cell were the client is locked up. However, in the CG movie, Vector simply knocks down the door without using the keys.
At the end of the level, "Eggman" is none too pleased about the intruders on his headquarters, and comes out to do battle in the Egg Emperor.
The normal / extra missions, along with their respective rank requirements, are:
|Team Sonic||40,000||37,000||25,000||20,000||<20,000||Get to the Goal Ring within 9 minutes!|
|Team Dark||12:00||13:00||14:00||15:00||>15:00||Defeat 100 enemies!|
|Team Rose||4:30||5:00||6:00||8:00||>8:00||Collect 200 rings!|
|Team Chaotix||55,000||50,000||40,000||30,000||<30,000||Find 10 cell keys!|
The Final Fortress is the setting for Heroes' Last Story, which sees Neo Metal Sonic finally reveal himself. Piecing together components from the airship itself, he transforms into Metal Madness and then Metal Overlord.
Unlike much of the Eggman Fleet, the Final Fortress is still airborne at the end of the game. Apparently this flying whale shark didn't meet its end until Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, when it is destroyed by the heroes and GUN above Metropolis in the game's opening sequence (although Eggman calls the Chronicles airship a "new Egg Carrier", so whether this is actually the Heroes model isn't certain).
Final Fortress also crops up as a racecourse in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, with the tracks Turbine Loop, Dark Arsenal, and Thunder Deck. See Final Fortress (ASR).

Try and incorporate this information into the main article. See the manual of style to find out why.
- In Team Sonic's version of Final Fortress, Tails will ask why the ship self-destructed after pressing the button in the English version while in the Japanese version, Tails asked why Eggman would place a self-destruct switch where it was easily accessible.
- In Team Rose's version, Amy recalls when she and Big were aboard the Egg Carrier in Sonic Adventure.
- Though surrounded by a massive thunderstorm in this stage, it can be seen in clear weather during the Egg Fleet opening cutscene.
