The 2013 release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is an enhanced downloadable remake of the 1992 Sega Mega Drive game Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It was scheduled to be published by Sega for iOS and Android devices in winter 2013.
This version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is being developed by Sonic Retro Tech Members The Taxman and Stealth, using a proprietary game engine named the "Retro Engine" (first used in the 2011 version of Sonic the Hedgehog CD. It will be offered as a free upgrade to iOS users who bought the original iOS emulation of Sonic 2. This also marks the first time that Sonic 2 has been brought to Android devices and smartphones.
As this is a port instead of emulation, new features are expected to be added. So far, widescreen support has been confirmed.
