First/Second/Third stage, Sonic Adventure |
Number of Acts: 2 |
Level theme: tropical island |
Emerald Coast is the first action stage in Sonic Adventure. Most Sonic games start with a Green Hill style stage, but SA instead starts with this run along the beach near the Station Square Hotel. The beach is rendered in great detail, from footprints visible in the sand all the way down to a very realistic looking lens flare from the sunlight above. The stage has three possible areas:
Azure Blue World
This is the first part where Sonic starts. There are a lot of beach chairs scattered about and wooden bridges to walk across. This part also features the classic loop-to-loop that made the first Sonic the Hedgehog game so famous.. now done in 3D! E-102 gets a slightly altered version of this section for his version of the Emerald Coast stage; he starts at the same location as Sonic and ends at his second air boost pad. His goal is to capture Froggy, found in this area.
Windy and Ripply
This second section is only available in Sonic's game. It features a run behind some waterfalls. The end of this section occurs where Sonic finds Tails, naturally, being the the level's first objective.
The intro to the music for this section is an arrangement of Boss 2 from the Mega Drive version of Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island. A (looped 3x) copy of this intro with Boss 2 on the left channel and Windy and Ripply on the right can be heard below: <mp3>http://info.sonicretro.org/images/7/76/S3d_boss_2_vs_sa_emerald_coast_2_vs_.mp3</mp3>
Big Fishin'
This area is only available to Big. It is basically the area at the end of the "Azure Blue World" section, with the bottomless pits in the ocean removed, filled instead with areas for fishing. If you wander around enough with Big, you'll find a small island out in the water with an entrance on one side. Swimming through this underwater passage leads to the island's interior, where there will be a secret place to fish.
Enemies
- E-01 Baby Kiki (Sonic, E-102, Big)
- E-02 Rhinotank (Sonic, E-102)
- E-03 Sweep (Sonic)
Trivia
- In the cutscene that plays right before Sonic's portion of the level, he is seen on a folding chair, sleeping. In the original Dreamcast version, Sonic's eyelids are a peach color, the same as his mouth, arms, ears, and belly dot. However, in the Gamecube version, his eyelids are changed to blue.
