Stories
KNUCKLEDUSTER
The story begins on a beach with Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails, Amy Rose, and Sticks the Badger fighting Dr. Eggman piloting a mech. The team is coordinating against the mech, until Sonic realizes that this issue is beginning the way the first issue did. Tails points out that it's the same mech too, just patched up with what seems like a rush job effort. Eggman quickly brushes aside the observations, touting that it's just as fearsome and deadly as before, and has a secret weapon loaded into it this time. He pushes a button as Knuckles punches Sonic off of the mech. Sonic is relieved to see Knuckles, until he announces that he's teamed up with Eggman while trapping Sonic in a cage.
Tails tries to reason with Knuckles, reminding him that he's the one who taught him how to ride a bike, wrap his sports tape, and how to count. Knuckles was able to trap Tails during this conversation, however, with Sticks calling out from behind them that she'll just use her own cage to "stick" it to the man. Amy confronts Knuckles, questioning why he's doing this. He reveals that he's tired of being made fun of, with the others acting like he can't "thought" for himself. Amy corrects his tense usage, which Knuckles angrily points out is an example of what he's angry about. In the midst of her distraction, Eggman scoops Amy up from the sand with his mech and traps her.
Knuckles realizing the folly of his plan.
With the four heroes defeated, Eggman ponders whether he will conquer or destroy the local village. He mentions that he did leave pork chops out to thaw for dinner, so that he'll just flip a coin to decide once he's arrived. In the cargo hold, we see Orbot and Cubot placing the trapped heroes alongside some boxes, with Sonic's immobility beginning to cause disillusionment. Knuckles reveals that he made this brilliant plan due to his frustration of their jokes about him. He cockily asks "Who's the dumb one now?!!", however, Knuckles realizes his mistake when Amy replies saying his plan helped Eggman win. He takes it hard, hitting his head and sinking to his knees calling himself stupid, apologizing for messing everything up. Amy attempts to reason with him by saying they can make things right if he lets them out, but he fears that he'd somehow mess that up too due to his stupidity. Knuckles runs a few steps away to sulk, but shortly after Tails and Amy decide to compliment Knuckles' intelligence in a bid to turn his mood around. However, they overdo it by telling him he could basically take Eggman on his own. Knuckles takes as a literal suggestion and runs off to confront Eggman, leaving them behind.
Sonic begins spinning in his cage, bothering Sticks enough to get out of hers so she can let him out. Tails and Amy are surprised, but she reminds them that she did bring her own cage. Sonic uses the freedom to excitedly spin around the cargo hold, overjoyed at being able to go fast again. Meanwhile, Knuckles confronts Eggman in the mech's spacious cockpit. Orbot and Cubot are ordered to deal with Knuckles, but they're promptly launched by him through the glass pane of the cockpit. Knuckles then breaks through the roof of the machine, skids down along the side, and manipulates its arm to make it hit itself. Eggman initiates a full retreat just as Sonic and the rest escape from the inner cargo hold. Knuckles laments with annoyance that he didn't get to be the hero. Tails expectantly clears his throat whle looking at Amy, who feigns danger by letting go of Tails' hand and falling from the sky. Knuckles gleefully saves her, and everyone lands back on the beach safe and sound. Amy apologies to Knuckles for insulting him earlier, and as he accepts it he mentions he'll leave the planning to her in the future. Orbot and Cubot approach the gang, mentioning that they're kind of stuck there due to Eggman and his mech fleeing into the ocean. Knuckles cracks his knuckles, and tosses them toward the mech. Tails checks in on how Sonic is doing, who mentions that he doesn't really remember what happened due to how slow he was moving. Suddenly, Amy screams out, unable to locate her hammer. The issue ends with text teasing the next story, as well as plenty of hammer puns.

Off Panel
We see Knuckles surrounded by crumpled up pieces of paper, thinking out loud to himself as Sonic approaches and asks what he's up to. He replies by mentioning that since Sonic is Sonic, and the book is called "Sonic Boom", he wants to have a name ready for when it's his turn. He figures that the marketing department probably won't like "Knuckles Sandwich", as it sounds like he's opening a deli. Sonic suggests a couple of names that tend to be insults, like "Knuckle-Head" and "Knuckle-Dragger", to which Knuckles replies that the deli is open for business and for Sonic to come get his sandwich. The panel ends with Tails suggesting the reader submit letters, e-mails, Tweets, and fan-art to Archie Comics.
