The game was released worldwide digitally on the 3DS eShop, and as part of the physical Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives 3: Final Stage collection in Japan. Like similar entries in the 3D Classics collection, 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 offers several additional features not found in the original game.
