"A Dastardly Deed", known as "Saigo no Chaos Emerald" (最後のカオスエメラルド) in Japan, is the 25th episode in the first season of Sonic X.
Summary
The episode begins with Sonic and Tails heading off in the X-Tornado to search for the last Chaos Emerald. Meanwhile, Dr. Eggman has similar plans; refusing his usual method of choosing a robot randomly, he sends out a robot named "E-77 Lucky" to find the Emerald. Though Lucky appears clumsy and useless, Eggman is convinced that the robot's good luck will lead him to the Emerald.
Meanwhile, Knuckles considers their situation: in order to trigger Chaos Control and return home, all the Chaos Emeralds must be in the same place, but they are currently split among himself, Sonic, and Eggman. Knuckles decides that in order to bring the Chaos Emeralds together, he will have to make peace between Sonic and Eggman. When he runs into Lucky in the forest, Lucky shows him the way back to Egg Fort II.
When Chris appears troubled at school, Mr. Stewart observes that Chris is conflicted about finding the last Emerald: he wants to do the right thing for Sonic and help him get home, but also wishes for Sonic to stay with him. Mr. Stewart explains to him that good things do not last forever, and accepting this is part of growing up.
The president consults with his aides (including Rouge and Topaz) and decides that since the effects of Chaos Control could cause an unforeseen disaster, they should prevent it from occurring until they understand it better. Topaz, Rouge, and other G.U.N. forces keep a close watch on Eggman's activities.
When Chris comes home, Knuckles arrives with Lucky in tow. He explains to Chris that reconciliation between Sonic and Eggman is necessary for them to get home, and Chris--now convinced that he should help Sonic get home as fast as possible--accompanies Knuckles to the Egg Fort II to present their case to Eggman. In their rush to catch the train for Forest Hill, Lucky gets left behind at the station.
Knuckles explains his reasoning to Eggman, and Eggman appears to agree...but insists that he be given the Chaos Emeralds if he goes along with the plan. Convinced that trusting him is the only way home, Knuckles and Chris agree to this, and Chris returns home to retrieve the four Emeralds that Sonic and his friends have collected.
Just as Knuckles and Chris return with the four Chaos Emeralds, Eggman gets a phone call from Lucky that he has found the last one. Knuckles and Chris initially rejoice...but Eggman throws Knuckles out of the ship with a trap door and takes Chris hostage, explaining that he was never really homesick; he just wants to establish the Eggman Empire and doesn't care what world it starts in.
Sonic and his friends, meanwhile, have discovered that their Emeralds are missing. Eggman takes off in the Egg Fort II just as Sonic arrives to rescue Chris, ending the episode in a cliffhanger as he flies away, pursued by both Sonic and G.U.N.
