|Long have legends swirled of the mysterious and fantastic power of…the eighth Chaos Emerald! At least, that’s the rumor Fang the Hunter has heard. And he’s going to track this treasure down with a little help from his gang, Bark the Polar Bear and Bean the Dynamite! First stop: that Chaos Emerald expert himself, Sonic the Hedgehog!
The first Classic-era Sonic the Hedgehog miniseries from IDW featuring the jerky jerboa from Sonic Superstars: Fang the Hunter! A Fang 30th anniversary special event!
On West Side Island in Emerald Hill Zone, Fang the Hunter, Bark the Polar Bear and Bean the Dynamite stalk Sonic the Hedgehog. They are preparing to capture him with a trap then interrogate him about the rumored eighth Chaos Emerald. Sonic wakes up from his nap just in time before the trap was sprung onto him. The three of them begin their attack against the blue hedgehog but are no match for his speed and Spin Attacks. The blue guy lectures his defeated foes that if Dr. Eggman hired them to take him down, they should tell Eggy to go after Sonic himself. Fang tells the speedy guy that it isn't about Eggman, he just wanted to force Sonic to talk about the eighth Chaos Emerald. Sonic is puzzled by this because he firmly believes there are only seven Chaos Emeralds and one Master Emerald. Sonic asks Bark and Bean what they would do with a Chaos Emerald, and Bean tells Sonic they want to use it to buy a portable freezer for Bark and a premium soccer ball. Fang wants the Emerald to upgrade the Marvelous Queen so he can finally take down Sonic. The three of them leave once they realize they aren't going to get any information from Sonic. Miles "Tails" Prower then flies in to tell Sonic that a flying battleship attacked Marble Zone on South Island before it vanished. The two of them then run off to go investigate.
Bark, Bean and Fang then decide to go find Knuckles the Echidna on Angel Island to see if he knows anything about the eighth Chaos Emerald. Once they arrived at the Emerald Shrine, they realized Knuckles was missing. As Fang starts freaking out, Bean starts to question why he and Bark should continue tagging along with the Jerboa. It's become very clear that Fang needs them more than they need Fang, which Fang dismisses. Upon reflecting on their past adventures, Bean and Bark are convinced to stay with Fang for one more adventure. Meanwhile, Knuckles watches them from the bushes and talks to a Clucky about it. The three of them enter Mushroom Hill Zone on their search for Knuckles. Soon enough, while Bean was playing around, Knuckles lifted a mushroom to spring the Woodpecker into vines. The red echidna then pulls a lever right when Bark steps onto a wind trap. Fang soon realizes that Knuckles took down his allies and takes up the challenge to see which one of them is the better hunter.
