Action Stages are the normal-style levels of Sonic Adventure and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Contrary to the non-linear, exploratory hubworlds, Action Stages are more like traditional Zones, with a start point and a specific objective. The stages must be played through to advance the game's plot.

Specific characters then play only the segment of the level appropriate for their gameplay style. For example, Windy Valley is divided into three sections: Windy Hill, then Tornado, then The Air. E-102 Gamma plays only Windy Hill; Tails plays only The Air, while Sonic plays all three sections.
