Character conception
Whisper was conceptualized by writer Ian Flynn, while artist Evan Stanley handled the character design.[2] Flynn said he wanted to add another female character to the cast but one who had a more soft and atypical personality while still able to keep up with the movement of the others. He also wanted to do more with the Wispon technology introduced in Sonic Forces.[3] Her character design draws inspiration from Sniper Wolf from Metal Gear Solid, the Major from Ghost in the Shell, and Kopaka from Bionicle.[4] Early on, Evan Stanley wanted Whisper to be blue in reference to Sonic the Werehog but this was didn't stick.[5]
In Comics
Origin of Whisper
A trained soldier and scout, Whisper was a member of the Diamond Cutters, a group of rebels dedicated to taking down the Eggman Empire during the Eggman War. This was until Mimic betrayed the team. The psychic member of the group Claire Voyance sensed something bad was going to happen and she told Whisper to hang back on the next mission. When the team entered Eggman's base, they were wiped out by an army of Shadow Androids. Now Whisper was alone with the Wisps being her only friends left. She continued to fight Eggman's forces and rescuing many soldiers, becoming known as "the Guardian Angel of the Battlefield".[6]
Personality and traits
Quiet and withdrawn, Whisper speaks infrequently and softly.
Whisper wields a weapon known as the Variable Wispon.[7] Unlike a standard Wispon, the Variable Wispon is compatible with multiple types of Wisps. Whisper's five Wisp companions are Blue Cube, Cyan Laser, Green Hover, Orange Rocket and Pink Spikes.
