Stories

Deep Trouble

Knuckles the Echidna started scourging Angel Island after the Metal Virus disaster, searching for any remains of the virus. While doing this he discovered a tunnel in the mountains that leads to Marble Garden. When Dr. Eggman started causing rumblings in Marble Garden, mining for rare minerals, Knux decided to call Sonic and Tails to Angel Island to help take care of the problem.

The blue and yellow duo arrive on the island with the Tornado and speak with Knuckles. The Echidna is still angry with Sonic for bringing Eggman, monsters and a plague to his island, but Tails interjects himself between Sonic and Knuckles to bring tensions down. Sonic and Tails start arguing over how Hydro City is pronounced while Knuckles opens the tunnel to Marble Garden he found not too long ago. Tails is impressed with how well Knux knows the island’s secrets, but the red Echidna admits there are whole regions he hasn’t explored, and he doesn’t like that.

They arrive at the end of the tunnel at Marble Garden. Sonic comments that the last time he was here it was pretty unstable, and Knuckles says the quakes have only gotten worse. Sonic remembers that a lot of it was because of Eggman’s reckless drilling, and right on que Robotnik shows up in his new digging machine. The trio battle the doctor, as he destroys the ground around them. As the three of them break apart the machine Eggman retreats, claiming he still tore up some real estate and so he claims victory.

Tails offers Knuckles to fly back to the Restoration HQ with them and relax, Knuckles appreciates the offer but passes. He realizes now there’s still mysteries on this island to be uncovered. And he won’t be satisfied until he’s found them all. But Sonic and Knuckles’ friendship seems to be patched up now.
