Uber Caterkiller
Game: Sonic Mania
Level: Mirage Saloon Zone (mini-boss)
Hits to defeat: 6
Fought by: Sonic, Tails, Mighty, Ray (Mania Mode only)
For the mini-boss fought in Knuckles' version of this stage and in Encore Mode, see Dangerous Ball Tower (Sonic Mania boss).

Uber Caterkiller is the eighth mini-boss encountered in Sonic Mania when playing as Sonic, Tails, Mighty or Ray in Mania Mode only. It is encountered at the end of Mirage Saloon Zone Act 1, and first appears as an ordinary Rattlekiller before being transformed into a gigantic form by the Heavy Magician.

Strategy

The Uber Caterkiller burrows through the sand in the background then jumps out to attack, similar to the Sandworm badnik from Sonic & Knuckles' Sandopolis Zone. Unlike the Sandworm badnik, it can attack from either the back, the front or the sides of the screen. The player can damage it by hitting its head with a Spin Attack, though this can be tricky when it jumps from the front or back of the screen as the head is only level with the player for a short amount of time.

After six hits, the boss will be defeated and the signpost will fall from the sky, ending the Act.
