Redz is a Badnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 that appears in the cut level Hidden Palace Zone. The "Redz" name comes from source code found in the Nick Arcade prototype of the game[1].

Overview

Its design is a small, red dinosaur with short limbs and a tail curving upward. Its movement pattern involves slowly moving about where it's standing, stopping to change direction when it reaches a wall or ledge. It does not attack back and can be destroyed by jumping on it. During development of Sonic 2 the Redz object has existed as early as the "Nick Arcade" prototype and was removed in "Beta 5", along with BBat and Stegway.

Redz finally made an official appearance in the Android and iOS release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in 2013. In this version, it has been given a new attack where it will spit fire at the player should they get close to it, rather than simply behaving like a Moto Bug, though its original attack pattern is reused in Proto Palace Zone. The Fire Shield will render the player immune to this new attack.
