Level select

Notavailable.svg

When "Press Button" appears on the title screen, press Up Down Left Right. A Ring sound will confirm correct entry. Afterwards, press any button to display the level select.

Several options are listed on this screen, and are as follows:

  • Player: Choose any of the available characters/character teams. This is now the only way to play as Sonic & Tails as that's no longer a default option for the game. The values are:
  • Spindash: Toggles the Spin Dash, just like in the Settings menu.
  • Gnd Spd Cap: Toggles the ground speed cap from the original game. Turned off by default.
  • Air Spd Cap: Toggles the air speed cap from the original game. Turned off by default.
  • S1 Spikes: Toggles the Spike damage behaviour from the original game. Turned off by default.
  • Items: Choose between "S1", "S1+S3", "S2" and "S2+S3". Values with "S2" will change the graphics of the Shield and Invincibility items to those of Sonic 2. Values with "S3" will add in the elemental Shields and allow Sonic to perform the Insta-Shield from Sonic 3.
  • Max Emeralds: Toggles between 6 or 7 Chaos Emeralds. Setting this to 7 allows characters to collect a seventh Chaos Emerald (cyan) and change into their Super forms after getting 50 Rings, jumping and pressing the Super form transformation button. This also changes the palette of the Emeralds to match the modern colours.

Debug mode

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 01, 09, 09, 01, 00, 06, 02, 03 (the US release date of the original game) in the Sound Test, then select any level.

Because the remaster no longer primarily focuses on touch screen controls, there's no longer a way to cycle backward through items.

All Chaos Emeralds

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 04, 01, 02, 06 in the Sound Test. A Chaos Emerald sound effect will confirm correct entry. This immediately gives the player all of the Chaos Emeralds.

Hidden developer credits / Swap "Tails" for "Miles"

Notavailable.svg

When "Press Button" appears on the title screen, press Up Down Down Down Down Up. A Ring sound will confirm correct entry. The hidden developer credits will appear once the game returns to the intro sequence. This will also swap all instances of "Tails" with "Miles".

The credits translated:

Program Naka Yuuji
Plan Yasuhara Hirokazu
Design Ooshima Naoto
Ishiwatari Jina
Kataoka Rieko
Sound Produce Nakamura Masato
Sound Program Kubota Hiroshi

Notavailable.svg

Enable level select and Debug mode, then play sound 07 in the Sound Test and select Special Stage. This will load a unique "CUSTOM" Special Stage that can be edited with Debug mode through new "Load", "Save" and "Clear" icons. The created Special Stage will not be saved between game sessions.

Sonic the Hedgehog CD

Extras

Some cheats of the original game are now unlocked through getting a certain total in Time Attack or its Special Stages section, the latter of which unlocks after completing the former's total within 30 minutes.

In Origins, the Extras must be unlocked individually for the Classic, Anniversary and Mirror Modes.

D. A. Garden

Notavailable.svg

To unlock D. A. Garden, the player must complete within 30 minutes for the combined Time Attack score, or collect all 7 Time Stones.

Visual Mode

Notavailable.svg

To unlock Visual Mode, the player must complete within 26 minutes for the combined Time Attack score.

Sound Test

Notavailable.svg

To unlock Sound Test, the player must complete within 4 minutes for the combined Special Stages score in Time Attack.

Stage Select

Notavailable.svg

To unlock Stage Select, the player must complete within 5 minutes for the combined Special Stages score in Time Attack.

Unlike the original 2011 remaster, it will no longer carry over the selected character and Time Stone progress from the save file most recently accessed, meaning that in tandem with how the other method of Stage Select now works, using Tails is no longer possible within the Stage Select, alongside the ability to start a game with all Time Stones obtained. This makes it so Tails can't be playable within Classic Mode.

Unlock Tails

Notavailable.svg

To unlock Tails, you must beat the game once.

"I'm outer here!!!!"

Notavailable.svg

Wait 3 minutes without doing anything, and Sonic will jump off the stage, ending the game.

Like the bonus the player receives from beating a boss at the 9:59 mark in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, this now only works in Classic Mode as both the time limit and game overs have been disabled in Anniversary and Mirror Mode. The "I'm outer here!!!!" line is also absent as voice clips have been removed from Sonic CD entirely.

Play 8th Special Stage

Notavailable.svg

In the Sound Test, set the values to PCM07, DA07. This will access an 8th Special Stage with Robotnik's head in the background.

Alternatively, within the Special Stages section of Time Attack, select one of the Special Stages then immediately exit with the back button. This will show the 8th Special Stage's Time Attack screen and allow you to play it there like any other Special Stage. But despite this, time scores made here will not be retained by the game.

Beating this hidden Special Stage normally no longer displays the remaster's credits, as those were merged into the main credits.

Secret pictures

Tails' message and edit mode

Notavailable.svg

In the Sound Test, set the values to PCM12, DA11. The image was made by Yasushi Yamaguchi, who created Tails, and the Little Planet theme plays on this image.

Tails is pictured next to his favourite carMedia:Sonic2 MD JP manual.pdf[1], the Lotus Super Seven. While seen in a Sega Saturn test disc, this is the only time to date that it has ever featured in a video game.

This will also enable edit mode.

MC Sonic

Notavailable.svg

In the Sound Test, set the values to PCM03, DA01. This image was made by Kazuyuki Hoshino, and the theme for Metallic Madness plays on this image.

"Spooky" Sonic

Notavailable.svg

In the Sound Test, set the values to PCM12, DA25. The message says たのしさ∞ セガ・エンタープライゼス まぢん画 (Infinite fun. Sega Enterprises - Mazin Picture), and was made by Masato Nishimura. The boss theme plays on this image.

Batman parody

Notavailable.svg

In the Sound Test, set the values to PCM04, DA21. The image was made by Takumi Miyake, and Final Fever plays on this image.

Anime Sonic

Notavailable.svg

In the Sound Test, set the values to PCM11, DA09. The message says ゆーあーくーる by さんちゃんず (You are cool, by Sanchanzu) and was made by Masahiro Sanpei. Palmtree Panic "G" Mix plays on this image.

Dessert Dazzle and Stage Select

Notavailable.svg

In the Sound Test, set the values to PCM32, DA08. This will showcase the scrapped remaster Zone of Dessert Dazzle. This will also enable the Stage Select but no longer exclusively enables Tails, meaning Tails is unusable within the Stage Select (along with the ability to start a game with all Time Stone obtained from the most recently accessed save file) and thus, Classic Mode.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Level select

Notavailable.svg

When "Press Button" appears on the title screen, press Up Up Up Down Down Down Left Right Left Right. A Ring sound will confirm correct entry. Afterwards, press any button to display the level select.

Hidden Palace Zone is listed beneath Death Egg Zone, but can now only be accessed by enabling debug mode and inputting the code formerly used to access Proto Palace Zone. Attempting to access it without the code will just play a buzzer sound, as in the original remaster if Hidden Palace Zone hadn't been properly "unlocked" yet. Play sounds 03, 03, 03, 0B, 10, 10, 10, 04 in the Sound Test, then simply choose "Hidden Palace" in the menu.

With this change, Proto Palace Zone has been removed from the remaster entirely.

Swap "Tails" for "Miles"

Notavailable.svg

When "Press Button" appears on the title screen, press Up Down Down Down Down Up. A Ring sound will confirm correct entry. This will cause all instances of "Tails" to change to "Miles".

Game configuration menu

Notavailable.svg

A game configuration menu is accessible by playing sound 00 three times in the Sound Test. It has the following options:

  • Player: Choose any of the available characters/character teams. The option of playing as Knuckles with Tails following is no longer exclusive to this menu as it has been upgraded to a default option for the remaster.
  • Items: Choose between Sonic 2 items, hidden Sonic 2 items (monitor contents are randomised like in 2-player mode), Sonic 3 items (adds the elemental Shields) and hidden Sonic 3 items. Enabling Sonic 3 items will also allow Sonic to perform the Insta-Shield, which now plays an incorrect sound effect.
  • Flight: Toggle Tails' ability to fly. Turned on by default.
  • Air Cap: Toggle the air speed cap from the original game. Turned off by default.

Debug mode

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 01, 09, 09, 02, 01, 01, 02, 04 (the US/European release date of the original game) in the Sound Test, then select any level.

Because the remaster no longer primarily focuses on touch screen controls, there's no longer a way to cycle backward through items. You can also no longer use the Debug mode cheat to play a 2P VS game without a second player.

All Chaos Emeralds

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 04, 01, 02, 06 in the Sound Test. A Chaos Emerald sound effect will confirm correct entry. This immediately gives the player all seven Chaos Emeralds, enabling Super Sonic or Super Knuckles.

By playing sounds 00 through 07 the Special Stage entered when choosing the special stage will change. 00 is the first Special Stage and every number after that is the next highest Special Stage, with 07 leading to the new eighth Special Stage. This Stage features a purple floor (a color previously used exclusively in multiplayer Special Stages), a corkscrew loop, and a light blue Chaos Emerald.

A collision viewer object. Highlights the terrain in different colours when placed, indicating solid terrain. Place it again to turn it off.
An "S" monitor. This transforms Sonic, Tails and Knuckles into Hyper Sonic, Super Tails and Hyper Knuckles respectively.
A Hyper Ring monitor. This item is left over from Sonic Mania and functions exactly as it did there, however the Ring counter will display the wrong palette due to using graphics from Sonic Mania. This item may also appear when playing with the random monitors cheat.
A Teleporter monitor. Does nothing when broken.
