The following list has been marked as incomplete. If you can, please complete it.

Hidden content for most of the games in this collection are mostly the same as in their respective remasters from 2011 and 2013. Links are provided to their respective pages where necessary.

Level select

Notavailable.svg

When "Press Button" appears on the title screen, press Up Down Left Right. A Ring sound will confirm correct entry. Afterwards, press any button to display the level select.

This is now the only way to play as Sonic & Tails as that's no longer a default option for the game, presumably because of a bug in which collecting 6 Chaos Emeralds with them crashed the game prior to Ver.2.0.1.

Additionally, with the Plus update, Amy & Tails has been added as another exclusive character option under the "05" value, oddly never suffering from the same issue.

Hidden developer credits / Swap "Tails" for "Miles"

Notavailable.svg

When "Press Button" appears on the title screen, press Up Down Down Down Down Up. A Ring sound will confirm correct entry. The hidden developer credits will appear once the game returns to the intro sequence. This will also swap all instances of "Tails" with "Miles".

Sonic the Hedgehog CD

In Origins, the Extras must be unlocked individually for the Classic, Anniversary and Mirror Modes. Additionally, the remaster credits no longer play after beating the hidden 8th Special Stage as Origins unified both sets of credits.

Dessert Dazzle and Stage Select

Notavailable.svg

In the Sound Test, set the values to PCM32, DA08. This will showcase the scrapped remaster Zone of Dessert Dazzle. This will also enable the Stage Select but no longer exclusively uses Tails, meaning Tails is unusable within both methods to access the Stage Select (and thus, Classic Mode alongside Knuckles and Amy), along with the ability to start a game with all Time Stones obtained, as such progress isn't carried over from the most recently accessed save file anymore.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Level select

Notavailable.svg

When "Press Button" appears on the title screen, press Up Up Up Down Down Down Left Right Left Right. A Ring sound will confirm correct entry. Afterwards, press any button to display the level select.

The option of playing as Knuckles with Tails following is no longer exclusive to this menu as it has been upgraded to a default option for the remaster.

Hidden Palace Zone is listed beneath Death Egg Zone, but can now only be accessed by enabling debug mode and inputting the code formerly used to access Proto Palace Zone. Attempting to access it without the code will just play a buzzer sound, as in the original remaster if Hidden Palace Zone hadn't been properly "unlocked" yet. Play sounds 03, 03, 03, 0B, 10, 10, 10, 04 in the Sound Test, then simply choose "Hidden Palace" in the menu.

With this change, Proto Palace Zone has been removed from the remaster entirely, only being present in the game's files.

Swap "Tails" for "Miles"

When "Press Button" appears on the title screen, press Up Down Down Down Down Up. A Ring sound will confirm correct entry. This will cause all instances of "Tails" to change to "Miles".

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles

Level select

When "Press Button" appears on the title screen, press Up Up Down Down Up Up Up Up. A Ring sound will confirm correct entry. Afterwards, press any button to display the title screen menu, then press Up once (or Down twice) to see a "Sound Test" option on the title screen.

To use the level select:

  • Use the D-Pad (Consoles) /  🡩   🡫   🡨   🡪  (PC) to select a level.
  • Press Square (PS4/PS5) / Y (Switch) / X (XB1/XSX) / xxxx (PC) to select the player's character.
  • Press Triangle (PS4/PS5) / X (Switch) / Y (XB1/XSX) / xxxx (PC) when Sonic or Amy is the selected character to have Tails follow them.
  • Press Circle (PS4/PS5) / A (Switch) / B (XB1/XSX) / xxxx (PC) to play the selected level/sound test entry.

Oddly, selecting Blue Spheres or New Blue Spheres not only allows the player to access either Blue Spheres in Anniversary Mode or New Blue Spheres in Classic Mode, but will also retain the player's level progress between sessions.

Edit mode

SonicOrigins S3K EditMode.png

Play sounds 01, 09, 09, 04, 01, 00, 01, 08 (the release date for Sonic & Knuckles) in the sound test. A Ring sound will confirm correct entry. Afterwards, select any level to start it with edit mode. During gameplay:

    • Press X (PS4/PS5) / B (Switch) / A (XB1/XSX) / xxxx (PC) when selecting certain objects (such as a monitor or spring) to change its subtype.

  • Camera coordinates are designated by the top line of hex digits in the top-right corner.
  • Player coordinates are designated by the bottom line of hex digits in the top-right corner.

Enabling edit mode will also allow characters to play each other's levels (eg: Sonic in Knuckles' Sky Sanctuary Zone), complete with sprite and cutscene adjustments to accommodate for this.

All Chaos/Super Emeralds

Play sounds 4, 01, 02, 06 in the sound test. A Chaos Emerald sound will confirm correct entry. Enter the same code again to get all Super Emeralds.

Select Special Stage

Play a sound from -0F and then select Special Stage to start from the corresponding Special Stage, including the two unused Special Stages. -07 correspond to the Sonic 3 Special Stages, while 8-0F correspond to the Sonic & Knuckles Special Stages.

Swap "Tails" for "Miles"

SonicOrigins S3K Miles.png

When "Press Button" appears on the title screen, press Up Up Up Down Down Down Up. A Ring sound will confirm correct entry. This will cause all instances of "Tails" to change to "Miles".

v1.04 sound test codes

As of the v1.04 update, new cheat codes have been added which can be entered in the sound test on the level select screen:

14 Continues

Play sounds 1, 09, 09, 02, 01, 01, 02, 04 (the edit mode code in Sonic 2, also the date the game released in North America). This code is useful only for Classic Mode, still being activatable in Anniversary Mode despite being useless there.

Enable Super Peel-Out

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 1, 09, 09, 03, 00, 09, 02, 03 (referencing the Japanese release date of Sonic CD). This will allow Sonic to perform the Super Peel-Out.

Fly anywhere as the characters' Super Form

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 2, 00, 01, 07, 00, 08, 01, 05 (referencing the release date of Sonic Mania). This allows every character in their Super form to fly in any Zone like Super Sonic normally would in Egg Reverie Zone from Sonic Mania. The player can even perform a dash in the air, which will cost 5 Rings. This also allows Knuckles to go into some Sonic/Tails routing.

Disable Super music

Play sounds 6, 02, 01, 04 (All Chaos Emeralds code backwards).

Disable '& Knuckles' branding

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 1, 09, 09, 04, 00, 02, 00, 02 (referencing the North American release date of Sonic 3). This will remove the '& Knuckles' branding from the title screen, title cards and endings, however the music will remain the same.

Ricky Mania

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 1, 09, 07, 09, 00, 08, 01, 01 (referencing Stealth's birthday). All animals will be replaced with Ricky.

All Badniks are Penguinators

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 1, 09, 09, 09, 00, 03, 00, 06 (referencing the birthday of Headcannon programmer Noah "Mr. Poe" Hall). All Badniks will be replaced with Penguinators.

Classic Shield monitors

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 1, 09, 09, 01, 00, 06, 02, 03 (referencing the widely-known "street date" of the North American release of Sonic 1; the actual release date was a few days before it, according to private UseNet groups[1]). All Shield monitors will change to the regular Shield, using its graphics from Sonic 2. This is represented with a blue item ball in the Bonus Stages.

Random monitors

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 4, 07, 09, 08, 01. All monitors will become "?" monitors that release random items when broken. This is represented with a new "?" item ball in the Bonus Stages.

Monitors give out bananas

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 2, 00, 00, 01, 01, 00, 01, 03 (referencing the birthday of Headcannon developer Derrek “TheStoneBanana” Harbold). All monitors will display "?" and release the banana item from Competition mode when broken, which will make the player's character slip. Unlike the cheats for Classic Shield monitors, random monitors and no items, this perhaps intentionally doesn't affect the Bonus Stages in any way.

No items

Notavailable.svg

Play sound 0 eight times. All Rings, monitors and Giant Rings will be removed from all Zones. Additionally affects the inaccessible Bonus Stages and The Doomsday Zone, making the latter virtually impossible to complete.

No camera lag

Play sounds 2, 02, 06, 03, 07, 02. This will prevent the camera from falling behind when moving at high speeds during gameplay.

Extra abilities in Competition mode

Notavailable.svg

Play sounds 3, 02, 01, 06, 00 ("3, 2, 1, GO!"). This will allow Sonic to use the Insta-Shield and Drop Dash, Knuckles to Glide and Amy to use the Jumping Hammer Attack and Hammer Rush in Competition mode. This additionally works with Sonic's Super Peel-Out if the code is enabled. It will also change the physics to match the 1 Player mode.

Objects

Placeable in edit mode
Art Description
A collision viewer object. Highlights the terrain in different colours when placed, indicating solid terrain. Place it again to turn it off.
Sonic3K MD Sprite Monitors.png
An "S" monitor. This transforms Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy into Hyper Sonic, Super Tails, Hyper Knuckles and Hyper Amy respectively.
A Hyper Ring monitor. This item is left over from Sonic Mania and functions exactly as it did there, however the Ring counter will display the wrong palette due to using graphics from Sonic Mania. This was fixed in the 2.0.0 update and the HUD now displays correctly. This item may also appear when playing with the random monitors cheat.
A Teleporter monitor. Does nothing when broken.

Blueprint Zone

Notavailable.svg

Blueprint Zone is a test level with simple graphics and lots of slopes, which was originally used by Christian Whitehead to test RSDKv5[2]. Object graphics for Blueprint Zone can be found in earlier versions of Sonic Mania.

Boss Attack Zone

Notavailable.svg

Boss Attack Zone is a boss rush akin to Egg Gauntlet Zone and the Zone of the same name from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2013). Unlike Origins' Boss Rush for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, this includes the mini-bosses and tweaked, abridged level design interconnecting the bosses, retaining chase segments from Angel Island Zone Act 2 and Hydrocity Zone Act 2 and adding in helping Elemental Shield monitors. Oddly, the latter level's Sonic the Hedgehog 3 layout is used instead of the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles layout present in Origins, with a Yellow Spring in place of a 1-Up monitor (possibly in being more appropriate for Time Attack).

Knuckles' alternate pathways and bosses are included, immediately splitting off with the rocks in Angel Island Zone Act 1. Although his pathway/cutscene position in Hydrocity Zone Act 2 is blocked off even when playing as him and has unfinished level design leading to nowhere. A glitch also locks him into sliding against the ground at some point into the Angel Island Zone boss.

Unlike Egg Gauntlet Zone, the level is very unfinished with only four of the Zones being present. Angel Island Zone's boss lacks the Eggman/Eggrobo sprites until being defeated and doesn't properly transition to Hydrocity Zone, either sticking on Sonic/Tails/Amy's cutscene (presumably meant for a new transition without Knuckles, who isn't present in Hydrocity Zone) or transitioning to Hydrocity Zone Act 1 with Knuckles' cutscene. The Carnival Night Zone layout ends at the mini-boss arena, which never spawns in.

The Zone was most likely scrapped in favour of the aforementioned Boss Rush mode that Origins uses for all Retro Engine games, which also seemingly replaced Boss Attack Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2013).

The Zoo

Notavailable.svg

A level called The Zoo exists in the files, presumably for testing Badniks. It crashes the game when loaded. Zoo versions of levels exist, with "Zoo" used in place of "Zone" (eg: Hydrocity Zoo, Flying Battery Zoo). They're merely porting tests.
