Buggernaut, or Bun-būn (ブンブーン) in Japan, is a blue mosquito badnik from Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s Hydrocity Zone. In behaviour, they are very similar to the Whisp. They attack in groups of 2 (an adult mosquito and a young mosquito). When the adult badnik is destroyed, the smaller one flies away in panic. They can be easily destroyed by jumping.
Etymologically, Bun-bun is a Japanese word for buzz, whereas the English translation’s name Buggernaut is a (not necessarily family-friendly) pun on the word juggernaut.
They reappers in Sonic Mania, again in Hydrocity Zone, with the same attack pattern.
