Contents
Character conception
Tangle was created by Ian Flynn, while Tyson Hesse drew the character design.[3] She was created for the comic series so the main Sonic cast could have more female characters.[4] Tangle was originally going to be a Hare based on Sonic's early design, but was changed to a Lemur to separate her from Cream the Rabbit.[5] Yuji Uekawa did the final design for Tangle's shoes.[6] Ian Flynn has also stated that her tail was inspired by the grappling hook mechanic of the Avatar in Sonic Forces.[7] David Mariotte said “Before she even had a name, we knew we wanted her to be like a lot of other great Sonic characters and have a special ability tied to one of her features. Think Tails or Knuckles.”[2]
Personality and traits
Tangle is an excitable ring-tailed lemur with a thirst for adventure. She first met Sonic while defending her hometown, Spiral Hill Village, from Dr. Eggman's robots. Her best friend is a beetle named Jewel, who she grew up with. Aleah Baker confirmed that she also likes Raspberries.[8]
Tangle's most distinguishing feature is her stretchy prehensile tail, which she puts to a multitude of uses.
History
Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW comics)
Tangle the Lemur grew up in Spring Hill Village and became its hometown hero.[9] She became friends with Jewel the Beetle, who tried to keep her out of trouble.[10] One day, a horde of Badniks under Metal Sonic's control attacked Spring Hill Village. Sonic the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat showed up to help Tangle defend the village.[11] The young lemur quickly became friends with them and help take down Metal when he began attacking Angel Island.[12][13] During this event, Tangle also met Whisper the Wolf,[12] who then traveled to Spring Hill Village.[10] One day, Whisper's former friend Mimic attacked Tangle and Whisper.[14] During this adventure, Tangle learned about Whisper's tragic past and their friendship grew deeper.[15] Later on, Tangle and Whisper became part of a team with Lanolin the Sheep, together, they are the new Diamond Cutters.[16]
