Lanolin the Sheep is a character from the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by IDW Publishing. She is an anthropomorphic sheep from Riverside who was originally a background character in various scenes until she was later established as a member of the Restoration, assisting in day-to-day operations at Restoration HQ.

Character conception

Lanolin was originally created by Adam Bryce Thomas as a background character in issue #2, and would make other background appearances in subsequent issues that he had illustrated for. Ian Flynn confirmed the character's name in January 2020.[2] When it was decided to make Lanolin a more prominent character in the story Ian Flynn and Evan Stanley worked very closely with Adam Bryce Thomas to figure her out.[3]

Evan said she felt seeing Lanolin in the background with her style and attitude change between issues would be very interesting as an arc to explore as a full fledge character. Evan commented that she likes how Lanolin had a slowly shown organic backstory that are not given to most comic characters. She also wanted to include her in more of the story to make Adam Bryce Thomas happy.[4]

Personality and traits

Lanolin doesn't have any real "superpowers" like Sonic or Tangle but she does have a Wispon that looks like a bell she wears around her neck.

History

Lanolin the Sheep comes from Riverside town. While Neo Metal Sonic was in-control of the Eggman Empire, a Death Crab nearly destroyed Lanolin's home. Sonic the Hedgehog managed to save Lanolin just in time, with some help from Amy Rose. Lanolin then tells them more Badniks are invading from the west and Sonic runs off.[5] Because of her experience, she never wanted to feel helpless or unprepared ever again.[6] Lanolin then joined the Restoration. Soon enough, she was working directly with director Jewel the Beetle. She helped build a rapid-response team in the Restoration to protect the world, which is later named the Diamond Cutters, after Whisper the Wolf's old team. Her first mission as the new leader of the Diamond Cutters ends up going horribly wrong. Tangle, Whisper and herself end up trapped in another plain of reality by Dr. Eggman's Eggperial City.[7] She started to doubt herself, but Tangle's words cheered her up. She then leads the Diamond Cutters to Eggman's control tower to stop him.[6]
