Sonic's Edusoft is an unreleased educational game for the Sega Master System developed in 1991 by Tiertex. The unofficially licensed game had been unknown until a Wikipedia page was created in September 2006 by an anonymous programmer involved with the game. This page has since been removed from Wikipedia.

In March 2007, "the programmer" replied to an SMS Power topic concerning the Wikipedia page, revealing more details about the game. On April 27th, 2008 the ROM was finally brought to the attention of the Sonic Retro community. The game will only run on an emulator that supports the loading of a Master System BIOS, such as Kega Fusion and Wakalabis.

GerbilSoft has created a hacked version of Sonic's Edusoft that should work in most emulators. The hacked version is available for download below.

Gameplay

Main Levels

There are over 15 levels in the game. All of them involve problem solving in a race to get to the end of the screen. Your opponent varies depending on the speed setting set at the options screen. For example, if you choose Snail you will race a Moto Bug, but when hare is selected you will race a much faster Rabbit, and the time limit is decreased.

Most of the levels involve find the word puzzles where you have to spell out a word using the available letters. These levels are sometimes interuppted by a match the letters segment, where you must find a certain amount of matching letters among the available letters shown onscreen. The match the letters segment is somewhat broken because sometimes no matching letters are ever shown, or actually matching the letters may give a wrong answer anyway.

Other levels involve solving mathematical equations, addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.

Minigames

There are also 3 minigames available. All of them have a time limit and score counter.

  • Balloon: This minigame involves you rolling across the ground to pop a balloon as it passes by. It is broken though, and balloons will pop for unexplicable reasons.
  • Trampoline: This game involves you jumpiing on a moving trampoline to reach the other side of the screen. You don't control Sonic, rather you control the trampoline and try to keep Sonic from hitting the ground.
  • Emerald Hill Mini-game

In this game you race sideways and jump to avoid debri's littered on the ground. Two different jump buttons are used in this game, one is a full screen jump, and the other is a much shorter jump. The debri's are probably supposed to be rocks but the graphics are glitched up so it's hard to tell. Also, there are balloons in the air which you can pop by jumping into them, this will add 100 points to your score.
