Overview
Act 1
Playing to the tune of "Azure Blue World", the Classic Act is based on the first half of the original Emerald Coast, complete with the Station Square beach resort in the background at the start. Soon after the resort is a part of the beach that resembles Neo Green Hill Zone. After having learned the Homing Attack from his Modern counterpart, Classic Sonic can try out his new move on the Kikis to reach higher platforms. After this part, Sonic goes through rock structures and is soon chased by the orca in a frantic platforming section full of crates and gaps in the wooden bridge.
After this chase, Sonic passes by a lighthouse, and then through another rocky part that sees him run along the side of the wall to avoid falling into the sea. Should he make it across, he will go through a route consisting of retracting platforms and Jump Panels, but he can also take a lower route composed of pools of water with Sweeps. Further on ahead, Jump Panels will lead Sonic through a cavern where he must use air currents to avoid spikes and the sea. The level ends similarly to the original, with Sonic being catapulted through a loop and passing the Signpost on a beach.
Act 2
With "Windy and Ripply" playing in the background, the Modern Act's overall layout is based on the second half of the original stage and begins differently from the first Act, in which Sonic starts on a wooden bridge and runs along a rocky part and jumps through Dash Rings, Rainbow Rings and air currents to reach shortcuts. There are platforms that require the use of the Boost, thus reaching higher ground level. Dolphins will also appear to help Sonic cross the water.
At the end of the Act, Sonic will run across another wooden bridge section and will chased by the orca before a Spring catapults him into the air, eventually engaging a quick-time event where the player must press the button three times so that Sonic doesn't get eaten. Immediately after, Sonic will reach the Goal Ring.
