The PAL version adds a ™ symbol to the game's title, while the NTSC-U version adds "™ &" to the copyright information at the bottom of the title screen.

"YOU ARE GREATEST PLAYER" was changed to "YOU ARE THE GREATEST PLAYER" to clean up a bit of Engrish.

The message at the end of the bad ending was shortened to simply "TRY AGAIN".

Mega-CD version

The PC versions have a Sega logo, lifted from older Mega Drive games. It does not animate and there is no sound effect.

Sonic fades in from a blue screen rather than a black one.

The title screen is rendered at a higher resolution, and features an updated copyright message. Everything has been redrawn, leading to Sonic having a different face.

While the animated introduction is rendered at the same size as the Mega-CD version, on Windows the full video is rendered, with more colours and frames of animation. The quality does not match up to the version seen in Sonic Jam two years later, but it was the highest quality version available at the time.

The saving system has been changed, replacing the "RAM Data" screen with an entirely different one accessible via "Saved Games" on the title screen. Here, the player can save and manage up to six save files which can be given names up to 10 characters and have timestamps.

Loading times are more of a problem on Windows. Loading screens, depicting a stylised version of Little Planet lifted from the D.A. Garden, interrupt most screen changes in the game.
