Sonic Universe is a comic book series published by Archie Comics between 2009 and 2017. It was designed to complement Archie's long-running Sonic the Hedgehog comic series, being published in between releases of its sister publication (thus ensuring that most months had two Sonic-related comics). Sonic Universe replaced the Sonic X comic series, though unlike that publication, took place in the same fictional universe as Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog.
Rather than focus exclusively on the adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Universe typically consisted of multi-part stories starring Sonic's friends and foes (for example, the first four issues have Shadow the Hedgehog in the starring role). Events in Sonic the Hedgehog could affect Sonic Universe (and vice versa), with both series coming together for the "Worlds Collide" and "Worlds Unite" story arcs. The series proved popular, outlasting all other Sonic comic spin-offs in its eight-year run.
94 issues of Sonic Universe were published before Sega cut its ties with Archie Comics on July 19, 2017. Work had already started on issues #95, #96 and #97 which would have focused on the traditional Archie Comics Freedom Fighters.
