Fishing Spot
Game: Sonic Frontiers

Fishing Spots (釣り場) are locations in Sonic Frontiers. Taking place inside Cyber Space and accessed by entering Purple Portals found across the Starfall Islands, Sonic can participate in a fishing mini-game hosted by Big the Cat.

Gameplay

To go fishing, Sonic must pay Purple Coins to Big so he may be loaned a fishing rod for one try. The player should aim where they would like, then press A to cast their line into the pond and wait. When a fish bites the lure, the player has to quickly press the same button to hook it, which will make one or more red circles appear around the lure. When the white ripple overlaps the red ripple, the player should quickly press A with good timing to reel in the fish. Successfully reeling in a fish will reward the player, usually with Treasure Tokens, though reeling in a treasure box will award the player with different items, such as a Gold Card. At any time before a fish bites, the player may quit by pressing B.

There are a total of four Fishing Spots that Sonic can visit, each one accessed from a different island. With each island Sonic visits, the cost to go fishing increases, but so will the Treasure Tokens rewarded for successful catches, and different kinds of fish can be found at each Fishing Spot. The Fishing Spots are as follows:

  • The Western Fishing Spot, accessed from Kronos Island. Costs 1 Purple Coin to fish.
  • The Northern Fishing Spot, accessed from Ares Island. Costs 2 Purple Coins to fish.
  • The Eastern Fishing Spot, accessed from Chaos Island. Costs 4 Purple Coins to fish.
  • The Southern Fishing Spot, accessed from Ouranos Island. Costs 8 Purple Coins to fish.

Token exchange

The player can exchange the Treasure Tokens awarded from catching fish to Big for items. Gold Tokens found in treasure boxes may also be exchanged without having to spend any Treasure Tokens. The items available are:

Egg Memo 15
Memory Token 5
Chaos Emerald Vault Key 15

Medaka A small, slender fish often found in home aquariums. A diverse range of variants exist, including those with translucent, skeletal bodies or multi-hued skin.
Crayfish A creature with powerful claws found in slow-moving freshwater environments. Being omnivorous, it can be caught with any food you happen to have on hand.
Tadpole The aquatic larva of frogs. As tadpoles grow, they first sprout legs then arms. Some species have a spiral pattern on their belly.
Clownfish A colorful tropical fish that has soared in popularity in recent years. Most variants are red, yellow, or orange with white stripes.
Squid A slick-skinned creature with eight arms and two tentacles. The squid can make subtle changes to its appearance to hide from predators.

Carp A fish found in rivers and ponds. It will eat almost anything, and is often used to cleanse waterways.
Snapping turtle A large turtle that can grow to over two and a half feet long and 240 pounds. It is commonly found in marshes and swamps.
Salmon A fish that makes for very good eating. Its eggs are considered a delicacy in some places. Though its flesh starts out pale, it turns orange over time due to pigments in the food it eats.
Flounder A fish with a mottled, pebble-like appearance. It dwells at the bottom of rivers and ponds, where its skin serves as camouflage to protect it from enemies.
Anglerfish A deep-sea fish with a rounded body. Its name refers to its use of the luminescent lure on its head to attract prey.
Octopus This eight-legged mollusk is considered a delicacy by some. Like squid, when threatened it shoots out ink that temporarily paralyzes the senses of its natural enemy, the moray eel.
Pufferfish A fish with two distinct appearances. Though it usually looks like an ordinary fish, it puffs up when danger presents itself.
Crab An aquatic crustacean. Though known for its sideways walk and sharp claws, some species are adept at moving forward and backward or swimming.
Alligator A savage, carnivorous creature with sharp teeth that lives near swamps and ponds. It goes to ground in winter to stay warm.
Black bass A very common fish found in temperate climates. Fishing for bass is a popular pastime, and it is often featured in competitive angling.
Nishiki koi A type of carp with a red, white, and black body. It was bred for its ornamental appeal, and its skin resembles brocade fabric.
Coelacanth A large fish sometimes referred to as a living fossil due to its lack of evolution since ancient times. Much about it remains a mystery, attracting broad scientists and public interest.
Oarfish A fish with a very long body. Its striking appearance may have inspired tales of legendary sea creatures.
Tuna A fish renowned for its delicate flavor. All parts of its body can be used in cuisine, and in some cases it is even eaten raw. Generally, the more oily cuts fetch the highest prices.
Sunfish A massive, flat-bodied fish. It can grow close to ten feet in length, though it is more delicately built than it appears. The juvenile sunfish has a star-shaped appearance that looks nothing like an adult.
Marlin A fish with a spear-like snout. It is said to be the fastest swimmer of all fish. You might even call it the Sonic of the sea!
Yellow spring An ordinary yellow spring. Stepping on one will propel you into the air.
Red spring An ordinary red spring. Stepping on one will propel you even higher than a yellow spring.
Tin can An empty tin can. Someone must have consumed the contents. I wonder what was in it...
Item box A box containing an item. Applying force will cause the item to pop out.
Star Post A marker that tracks passers-by. If you fall after touching one, you can return to its location.
Goal Plate A plate that lets you know you've reached the goal. Running past one fills you with a sense of accomplishment.
Chopper A mechanical creature that looks like a fish. It can't be eaten, so don't even try.
Twig A twig used to build or repair things. It could also be fuel for a fire if it wasn't so waterlogged.
Acorn The seed of an oak tree. Some are round, while others are long and thin. A somewhat lackluster catch, in a nutshell.
Ring One of the gold rings that have aided Sonic in the past. This one seems to be a work of art that doesn't have any particular effects.
Tire A tire for vehicles. They come in a variety of sizes and treads, but this one seems to be for a regular passenger car.
Barracuda A large fish with a big mouth and sharp teeth. Aggressive by nature, it has been known to attack people.
Stingray A flat fish with a long tail. It is said to be related to the shark, though they look nothing alike. It has distinctive gills on the bottom of its body.
Starfish A flat sea creature covered with spiny skin. It moves across the seabed using countless tube feet on its underside. Starfish are sometimes eaten or used in traditional medicine.
Poison dart frog A brightly colored but highly poisonous frog. Use caution when you come across these dangerous creatures.
Goldfish A fish that is gold in name, but red in color. They are bred for their ornamental value, and aren't found in nature.
Flying fish A fish with large fins. While aboard sea vessels, you'll sometimes see them leaping from the water as they flee from predators.
Giant isopod A deep-sea creature resembling an insect. It lives in the ocean depths untouched by light. Its efficient metabolism enables it to survive without food for years after even a modest meal.
Hammerhead shark As its name suggests, this shark has a hammer-shaped head. Apparently, this makes it more sensitive to electric signals than other sharks.
Ancient tablet An inscribed stone tablet. It has the same message in three languages, including mysterious glyphs, so it could serve as a key to deciphering them.
Moray eel An aquatic creature that looks like a snake. It has sharp teeth and a ferocious temperament.
Polka-dot hammerhead shark Despite its disarming appearance, this is a bona fide hammerhead shark. Don't be misled by its cute look, as it can be dangerous.
Red can An empty red can. Perhaps it contained some chili con carne for chili dogs.
Silver acorn A silver acorn. Was the tree it came from silver, too?
Small Chopper A small Chopper. It's made of metal like its larger counterpart, but the bone-like pieces are more delicate.
Platinum-golden fish A goldfish with a platinum-colored body. Its shiny scales are no doubt far more valuable than the regular kind.
Blue ringed octopus An octopus featuring a polka-dot pattern. Though it has a flashy appearance, it contains the same deadly tetrodotoxin as pufferfish.
Golden coelacanth A coelacanth with a golden sheen. Though very beautiful, it's not suited to home aquariums, as the flashes of light would keep everyone up at night.
King salmon A large salmon found in relatively cold ocean climates. Its flesh is more fatty than regular salmon.
Black starfish A black starfish. Black is the ideal color for concealment on the deep ocean floor, where sunlight never penetrates.
Flashy anglerfish A flashy, small anglerfish. Though larger ones can look quite vicious, they're much cuter in compact form.
Red giant isopod An enormous red isopod. Even larger than the standard giant isopod, this spectacularly large creature could be considered the king of the isopods.

Striped sunfish A striped sunfish. Its large body makes the stripes impressive to behold even underwater.
Big rainbow colored frog A massive mutant poison dart frog with a body all the colors of the rainbow. It must eat a rich diet of multi-colored food.
Red Seed of Power A beautiful red seed. Take it to Hermit Koco to raise Sonic's attack power.
