Wyvern is the second of the four Titans from Sonic Frontiers. It appears on the second island, Ares Island.

History

In the distant past, Wyvern, alongside the other Titans were constructed as the Ancients' ultimate weapon in order to defend their new home and defeat the mysterious entity that once destroyed their planet and many others. Alongside the other Titans, Wyvern was empowered by the Chaos Emeralds and sent to space to battle The End. Unfortunately for them, the entity proved to be too powerful, demanding the sacrifice of Supreme's pilot so the other Titans could have a chance to seal The End within Cyber Space. Following the conflict in space, Wyvern returned to Ares Island where it stayed dormant for centuries.

Description

In contrast to the previous Titan, Giganto, Wyvern is substantially smaller and instead of a humanoid form its body has a serpentine shape that resembles a dragon.

Strategy

First encounter

Second encounter

First phase

The first battle starts with red light trails similar to Squid's where Sonic will be automatically running forward and has to dodge the incoming energy shots. The trails eventually end, requiring the player to use the Homing Attack to hit laser-like flowing artifacts before transitioning to the next light trail.

Ultimately, Sonic reaches Wyvern's head, jumping off automatically to the perimeter of the emerald's Vault. Upon snatching the Chaos Emerald, a cutscene is triggered and Sonic turns into Super Sonic, leading to the second phase of the battle.

Second phase

The battle starts with Super Sonic pursuing the large dragon-like robot in open air over Ares Island while trying to either avoid or Parry its missiles; parrying the missiles will redirect them back to Wyvern. Afterwards, both Sonic and Wyvern quickly fly through the skies, opening an opportunity to attack the latter. However, if not attacked, Wyvern will attempt to scratch Sonic with its claws, a move that can be parried and if successful will leave the flying enemy stunned for a few seconds, opening another opportunity to attack with Homing Shots and combos.

Once its consciousness is regained, Wyvern will attempt to attack Sonic with its tail, yet another attack that can be parried. This time, however, if the player fails to parry Sonic will be launched away, reinitiating the pursue. If successful, instead, the player will be rewarded with prompts for a Grand Slam which severely hurts Wyvern before restarting the pursue and a cycle of attacks.

The cycle finally breaks when the Titan is at half of its health, becoming more aggressive overall with swarms of missiles and large ring-shaped energy projectiles launched at Sonic's way. Even its attacks are more aggressive in comparison as Wyvern charges at the player faster and more frequently; still, parrying the attack will lead to a stun state and create an opportunity for the player to attack. After cutting to a cutscene, the player will be presented with a Quick-Time Event prompt to dodge Wyvern's barrage of missiles; if triumphant, Wyvern will be left with low health and another chance to be attacked and if not, Super Sonic is vaporized by the projectiles.

On critically low health, Wyvern will perform a last attempt on defeating the Sonic by charging at the hedgehog, again, the player will be presented with a sequence of Quick-Time Events prompts to be mashed so Super Sonic can avoid or dodge the incoming attacks of the Titan before ending on a cutscene where Wyvern is blown up by its own barrage of missiles.

This is the only Titan fight in game that allows Super Sonic to collect rings within the battle.
