Power-Ups
Power-ups are scattered throughout each track, with a variety of abilities.
- Blue Box: Makes the player invincible for a short period of time.
- Orange Bumper: Players bounce off these if hit.
- Rings: Collecting two rings (or three in the case of Metal Sonic) allows the player to use their special attack.
- Red Box: Speed Boost.
- Springs/Ramps/Rocks/Yellow Boxes: These all launch the player up into the air, increasing your speed.
- Robotnik Balls: These throw off handling and invariably cause careening off the road.
- Black Box: Spiked Ball of Doom!
- Rockets/Stars/drills: Cause the screen to flash white for 1 second.
- Half-Pipe: If the player is going fast enough it will launch them up into the air.
- Red Snails: Obstacles that slow the player down.
- Balloons: Screw up handling and slow the player down.
- R Spheres: Causes a temporary reversal in steering.
