Polly Mt. 2, called Pori Pori Yama (ポリポリ山) in the Japanese version[1], is the ninth level of Tails Adventures for the Sega Game Gear. Tails explored the windswept peaks in Polly Mt. 1, and now returns to check out the pitch-black inner caves in Polly Mt. 2. Unlike most levels in Tails Adventures, Polly Mountain 2 is not one that the player will have to keep coming back to as new items open up new routes; Tails can clean out the area on the first visit.

Overview
After sailing up the river rapids from Lake Crystal, Tails secures the Sea Fox somewhere and advances into the subterranean caves of the Polly Mountains. This place is pitch black; while technically accessible without appropriate visors, the fox can't make much progress through Polly Mountain 2 unless he's wearing the Night Vision from Green Island, which renders the area in monochrome red (but at least visible) IR hues.
The lava caverns under the mountains aren't the winding, claustrophobic variety seen in Volcanic Tunnel, but rather massive dark voids filled with cinder-laden updrafts and robot bats. This stage includes a particularly nefarious platforming segment where Tails has to blast his own footholds out of the destructible rockfaces in order to climb up the cave walls. Just make sure to leave a section at the bottom to stand on!
Items
Items to pick up in Polly Mt. 2 include:
Item Radar — At the bottom of the first area. Use the Remote Bomb to safely blow up the walls above the lava, then use the Remote Robot to retrieve it.
Fang — Open the pit surrounded by two lava pools in the second area, then have the Remote Robot fly into a small tunnel inside the pit leading to the item.
Large Bomb — At the highest point of the second area. Use the Remote Robot to retrieve it. |
