The Black Dragon[fn 1] is the true final boss of Sonic Superstars. It is fought in the Last Story that is unlocked after clearing both Story Mode and Trip's Story with all seven Chaos Emeralds collected.
The Black Dragon is a giant ancient entity whose existence is foreshadowed by an ancient mural on the Northstar Islands. Although Dr. Eggman had learned of its existence and planned on unleashing it for the purpose of world domination[1], he is ultimately defeated by Sonic and friends before he could get the chance to do so. Instead, it reawakened on its own without his influence.
Once defeated by Super Sonic, Trip seals the Black Dragon inside of the Black Onyx.[2]
