"Ball" is a scrapped enemy (or obstacle) planned for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It is a bouncing ball, which appears to have caused Sonic to bounce off it it touched.
While the graphics for the object exist in two early prototypes of Sonic 2, the "Nick Arcade" and "Simon Wai" builds, it would not be until the "Alpha" build where code was attached. It was removed entirely in subsequent prototypes, and by extension, does not feature in the final game.
Graphics for the enemy were created by Tom Payne.
