3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is an enhanced re-release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Nintendo 3DS and is part of M2's 3D Classics range. The game was released worldwide digitally on the 3DS eShop, and as part of the physical Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives 3: Final Stage collection in Japan. Like similar entries in the 3D Classics collection, 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 offers several additional features not found in the original game.

Gameplay

Additional features

This version has several additional features over the original release including stereoscopic 3D, 2-player VS. and co-op via local wireless, a filter to emulate the look of older televisions, customizable controls, the choice between the Japanese and International versions, savestates, and a "Ring Keeper" feature which gives the player 10 free Rings at the start of each Act and causes the player to only lose half their Rings when hit. In addition, upon completing the game a "Super Sonic Mode" is unlocked, which when activated starts every Act with 50 Rings and all 7 Chaos Emeralds, allowing Super Sonic to be engaged immediately.

Activating "Stage Select" on the main menu will automatically enable the level select without needing to enter the necessary cheat code.
