The Team Ultimate[1], known as the Ultimate Boost (アルティメットブースト[2]) in Japan, is a move that is used in Team Sonic Racing. It is a power-up state that drastically powers up a team for a short while, similar to the All-Star Moves from Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
Overview
By performing team-based actions during team races, such as Slingshots, Skimboosts, Item Transfers and Rival Takedowns, teams can build up energy in their Ultimate Meter. When the Ultimate Meter is completely filled, all members of the team will be able to activate their Team Ultimate by pressing (PS4)/ (XB1)/ (Switch). Doing so surrounds the users in a golden aura and gives their vehicle a massive speed boost and invincibility against collisions and obstacles, allowing them to become an unstoppable force.
Once a Team Ultimate has been activated, the Ultimate Meter will gradually drain until it runs out completely, ending the Team Ultimate. Driving into a rival will send them spinning out of control and extend the duration of the Team Ultimate. While the Team Ultimate can be activated individually, the duration will be increased further if the whole team activates their Team Ultimates at the same time.
Music
Each of the playable characters in Team Sonic Racing will play an associated music track that overrides the current background music whenever they use a Team Ultimate.
