Spidal Tap (スパイダルタップ)[1] is a variety of Badnik created by Dr. Eggman, encountered by Sonic or Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble.
Overview
Encountered only in Robotnik Winter Zone, Spidal Taps are round, yellow spiders with tiny white legs and fangs, found riding on moving platforms. While similar to the previously-encountered Ridal Taps in purpose, they have absolutely no means of attack, though they can still hurt the player by colliding into them. They are very easily defeated with a Spin Attack, allowing the player to ride on their platforms and proceed through the Zone.
Like other robots in 8-bit Sonic games, no animal friends pop out of Spidal Taps when they are destroyed. Whether these Badniks canonically don't contain organic batteries, or the escaping critters simply aren't shown due to programming limitations, is not known.
Name similarities
The Spidal Tap's name sounds very similar to the name of a 1980's parody heavy metal band, Spinal Tap.
