The Egg Fighter: Shield is a Badnik featured in Sonic Unleashed.

Overview

These are shield-wielding variants of the Egg Fighters, who attack by approaching Sonic if they spot him and throwing punches with their free arm. Their shields will block Sonic's Homing Attack and reduce damage taken from the Werehog's moves, but if attacked with strong combo attacks or a Critical Attack, the shields will be lost, reducing them to regular Egg Fighters.

There are two other variants of this enemy that carry different shield types. One of which is electrified to give it offensive use, and one which is outfitted with a spring to repel Sonic.

Quotes

The powerful steel shields these Egg Fighters carry can easily deflect most attacks.

It would take a supersonic blast to knock away their defenses, or someone quick and clever enough to attack them from the rear.

— Encyclopedia, 360/PS3 version

A high-voltage current courses through the shields these units carry, dealing massive damage to anything they touch.

Thankfully, the high cost of manufacturing shields made of sufficiently strong and conductive alloys meant that only a few were ever produced.

— Encyclopedia (electric shield variant), 360/PS3 version

These shield-bearing Egg Fighters block Sonic's path.
