Sonic Runners (ソニック・ランナーズ) was an action game developed by Sonic Team released for iOS and Android devices in 2015. It had a soft launch in Japan and Canada on February 26th, and later a full release worldwide on June 25th.
Similar to Sonic Dash, Sonic Runners was an "endless runner", in which Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower or Knuckles the Echidna automatically run forward; the player controlling their jumps and special moves by touching the screen at the correct moments. Unlike Sonic Dash, Runners was played from a 2D perspective and had different stages instead of one stage that endlessly goes on. The game also incorporated a buddy system in which you could have up to two buddies (these include a variety of items and characters, such as Chao) tag along and help you in different ways.
The game was free to download, but contained in-app purchases. It was removed from Google Play and the App Store on July 27th, 2016 with all online services for the game being shut down due to the game being considered unprofitable, thus rendering the game completely unplayable.[6][7] A sequel, Sonic Runners Adventure, was released by Gameloft in 2017.
