Sonic Gems Collection uses icons to signify what systems each game was originally released for, and localises them accordingly for each region. For Sonic the Hedgehog CD, the "SCD" (Sega CD) icons is used for the North American version, while other regions use "MCD" (Mega-CD) instead.
Additionally, Sonic the Fighters is signified with "AC" in the Japanese version, while in Western versions "AG" is used.

For Mega Drive games, the Japanese version uses "SG" (Sega Genesis) and "MD" (Mega Drive) icons selectively. "SG" is used for Vectorman and Vectorman 2 (as well as the Museum demos for Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine) to signify those games were never released in Japan, while "MD" is used for every other Mega Drive game. The North American version uses "SG" for all Mega Drive games, while the PAL version uses "MD" for all of them (even though Vectorman 2 wasn't released in PAL territories either).

The digital manuals are localised for each region (though PAL versions use the North American manuals). The PlayStation 2 version keeps both Japanese and North American manuals on the disc, and chooses which manuals to load depending on the language the console is set on. The GameCube version only has the language for the region of release in the game data.

There are, however, some exceptions - the Game Gear version of Sonic Spinball was never released in Japan, so only the North American manual is available in the Japanese version. A notice was added as a separate page at the beginning of the manual to inform the user of this.

Likewise, the reverse happens with Tails' Skypatrol in Western versions as the game was never originally released outside Japan. For reasons unknown, the last two pages of the manual were removed in Western versions.
