The Caterkiller, called Nal (ナール) in the Japanese Manual, is a caterpillar-esque badnik found in Marble Zone and Scrap Brain Zone that crawl along the ground. Spikes cover its body, leaving only one weak point—the head. Trying to destroy it from any other angle will make the badnik fall apart and send the pieces flying.

Appear again in Sonic 3D Blast, where jumps pits at Green Grove Zone, the easiest way to kill him is doing a Spin Dash in his head. Caterkiller makes a return in "Sonic Colours" (Wii version) in Asteroid Coaster, where he pops out of the ground & shoots energy projectiles out of his mouth like a turret.
