The Egg Stinger[1] is the third boss encountered in Sonic the Hedgehog. It is fought at the end of Spring Yard Zone.
Strategy
This can get pretty tough. Dr. Eggman, as usual, flies in his Egg Mobile, and a spike will appear from under his ship. The player stands on a bridge made out of blocks. When the player gets under Eggman, he'll descend, and will use his spike to destroy the block below him. If the player doesn't get out of the way, they'll be hurt by the spike. On the other hand, when Eggman descends, the player will be able to move out of the way and jump on him when he lowers. The player can usually get from one or two hits every time. Getting two hits in is riskier because Eggman will often rise up again and the player will fall down into the pit because of the block being taken. With good timing, the player can hit him when he hovers a bit lower as he moves left and right. Also, by standing on the edge of a gap, they can trick Eggman into stabbing air.
However, because Eggman keeps descending and destroying blocks, not only will the player have to worry about the spike, but as the number of blocks decrease, the bigger the pit becomes. Therefore, in this battle, the player will have to take out Eggman fast, or all safe standing ground will soon disappear completely.
Due to the difficulty of this boss, it is a good idea to try to get the extra life just before; it's easy if the player is patient.
