Parry[1] (パリィ) is a move performed by Sonic the Hedgehog in Sonic Frontiers. It is a defensive technique that Sonic can use in combat.

Overview

Parrying is performed by pressing and holding L1+R1 (PS4/PS5)/Left Bumper+Right Bumper (XB1)/L+R (Switch) on the ground or in mid-air for as long as possible, making Sonic take a defensive stance, and waiting until an enemy lands an attack on Sonic. When hit by an attack in this state, Sonic will automatically parry the attack, which will negate all damage and knockback as well as trigger a slow-motion effect similar to "Witch Time" from the Bayonetta series. At this point, the player can freely follow up with any attack during the effect. If the Grand Slam has been unlocked, a prompt to use the move will appear after a successful Parry. Some Open Zone challenges require Sonic to successfully Parry projectiles.

Super Sonic can also perform a Parry when fighting the Titans. In such cases, Super Sonic will teleport away after a successful Parry, and will reappear in a flash of light if the player follows up with an attack, a dodge or another Parry.

Quotes

Use your enemies' moves against them by utilizing parry during combat. A visual cue lets you know when an enemy is about to attack. If you react quickly enough, you can parry it and follow up with a counterattack of your own.
