Labyrinth Zone, the first example of the Underwater cliché.

Another of the common clichéd zones. All or most of the level takes place underwater and the use of air bubbles is critical. You'll find plenty of piranha badniks as well.

An interesting note is that the cliché has been dropped in most recent 3D games, where falling into water immediatly causes the player to lose a life, preventing underwater play. Examples of this include:
