''Sonic Classic Collection'' uses a modified version of [[jEnesis|jEnesisDS]] by [[Stephan Dittrich]], who was hired by [[SEGA]] and was the lead DS programmer of this game. The ROMs used in this game were modified to not show features that a single DS couldn't use, such as 2 Player modes in ''Sonic 2'' and ''Sonic 3'', as well as other things such as ''Sonic 2''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s options screen and Level Select. Additionally, the {{Start}} button on the DS is generally disabled, with the player pausing the game by using the touch screen, which actually pauses the emulator. As a result, several, but not all of the original cheats are rendered defunct. The ROMs used also had some sort of "lock" which restricted the ROMs to only play using jEnesisDS.

Both Level Select and Debug Mode can be activated in Sonic 1 with no worries. All cheats for Knuckles in Sonic 2 work perfectly as well. However, when it comes to the other games, not so much success can be found.

The only cheat which works for Sonic 2 in Classic Collection is the "Change Tails' name to Miles in the HUD" cheat, which pales in comparison to the cheat availability of Sonic 1. Level Select cannot be activated, rendering all other cheats out of the question, because the menu at the title screen has been altered and the Sound Test has been removed.

As for Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles and Knuckles in Sonic 3 (a.k.a. Sonic 3 and Knuckles), the cheats can only be partically activated (but not to the extent that they are enabled). The ring confirmation sound plays, but the cheat can only be activated afterwards by pausing or pressing START, which the Classic Collection disabled. While it is possible that the Level Select of Sonic 3 may be intact, the timing is so difficult to pull off that it is near impossible to tell.

Sonic Classic Collection is a Nintendo DS compilation featuring several Mega Drive/Genesis Sonic games. The ability to save mid-game and resume from that point has been added.

The compilation was confirmed to be in development November 11th of 2009 when the compilation was listed, along with the included game list, on the bbfc website.[1] On November 18th Nintendo of Australia posted a news article which revealed the compilation was to be released on the Nintendo DS.[2] It was released on March 2, 2010 in North America. Emulation

Sonic Classic Collection uses a modified version of jEnesisDS by Stephan Dittrich, who was hired by SEGA and was the lead DS programmer of this game. The ROMs used in this game were modified to not show features that a single DS couldn't use, such as 2 Player modes in Sonic 2 and Sonic 3, as well as other things such as Sonic 2's options screen and Level Select. Additionally, the Start button on the DS is generally disabled, with the player pausing the game by using the touch screen, which actually pauses the emulator. As a result, several, but not all of the original cheats are rendered defunct. The ROMs used also had some sort of "lock" which restricted the ROMs to only play using jEnesisDS.

Extras

Also included with the game are an art gallery featuring 30 Sonic pictures previously seen in Sonic Jam and Sonic Gems Collection, and a credits screen.
