Nightmares are Dark Gaia minions encountered by Sonic the Werehog in the night stages of Sonic Unleashed. The most ubiquitous of Dark Gaia's monsters, these turquoise-black humanoid enemies have thick forearms and spiked backs, contributing to a bizarre, otherworldly appearence. Nightmares frequently attack in packs, appearing en masse in puffs of supernatural smoke, and Sonic is forced to smash his way through a whole lot of these standardised footsoldiers on his quest to fix the planet.
Nightmares lack any sort of projectile offense, and instead attack the Werehog by means of their stretchy arms. A pack of Nightmares will sometimes be spearheaded by a Deep Nightmare; their bulkier, stronger cousins.
