Ixis Naugus is a character created by DiC for the 1993 Sonic the Hedgehog animated TV series (SatAM). He was first mentioned in the episode "Blast to the Past (Part 2)" then made his proper debut in the episode "The Void".

Character conception

Originally, Naugus was named "Ixis" in early development of "The Void".[1] The name Ixis was not used in the final version of the episode but went on to be used within Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog comic series. His name is also spelled as "Nagus" on the series model sheets.Media:SonicTH-SatAM Model Sheet Naugus Color.png[2]

Ben Hurst wanted to bring back Naugus for the third season of the cartoon, working with Snively, but the series was canceled after two seasons.[3]

Personality and traits

Naugus is a powerful magic user. He is bitter and old, angry at Dr. Robotnik for double crossing him. He had great joy in humiliating him during his revenge. He has said his magic can do anything within sanctuary. He can not escape it alone though, and if he did, he wouldn't survive for long.[4]

Naugus is a sorcerer who discovered another dimension called the Void,[5] which he calls sanctuary. He spent many years struggling to uncover the secret of how to travel to it. He worked with Dr. Robotnik, who designed the means to enter it, and he put his trust in him while visiting the dimension. After Naugus traveled in, Robotnik told Snively to disable all retrieval programs. Naugus was trapped in the Void for over a decade with Sally's father. Within this place, his magic can do anything, except enable him to escape.

One day, Naugus concocted a plot to leave it. By capturing Sally Acorn, he could lure Sonic the Hedgehog into the Void then use his speed to get out of sanctuary. It worked, and Naugus began getting payback by humiliating Robotnik with his magic. Unfortunately, because he spent so much time in the Void, he cannot exist in Mobius for long. He had to return to sanctuary or else be turned to crystal.[4] While unexplained, his red eyes are shown in the shadows behind Snively as he states his plans to take Robotnik's place.[6]
