Metallix MKIII, merely referred to as "Metallix" or "the new Metallix", is Sonic the Comic's version of Metal Knuckles.

History

Conceived as a replacement to the failed Metallix project, Metallix MKIII was built using Knuckles as a base instead of Sonic, as a design based on the blue hedgehog was too unstable.[1] Grimer took great precautions this time by not letting it have a mind of its own so it won't rebel, thus the robot remained as Dr. Robotnik's personal bodyguard and slave. Again, he was an excellent model that sported heavy armor-plated knuckles, a death ray in his chest and thick armor plating on his body.

During the "Drakon Saga", Robotnik captured Sonic and brought him forth to the Drakons to be falsely prosecuted for destroying one of their Sentinels. He was sentenced to a "Trial By Combat", where if he won the battle he would be innocent. Of course, Robotnik had other plans and sent the MKIII as his opponent. As with all other Metallixes, in a straight fight he easily had Sonic beaten, however this new Metallix was bulky and well armoured - but slow (being based on Knuckles of course); Sonic ran rings around him to prolong the battle.

Meanwhile, Tails had sneaked to the Drakon homeworld to free his partner. He took out the guard to the arena and opened the door, to which Sonic saw him and raced towards the door. It was sheer luck that Tails timed it right and closed it on the Metallix's head, instantly decapitating him. The battle was won and Sonic was innocent.

Robotnik started to build more MKIIIs, but they where never activated. Later in the comic, Grimer was obviously proud of his creation and had sent one to capture Sonic, and after he easily beat Sonic he took him to Grimer's lab so Grimer could read Sonic's mind. After his plan had worked, he placed Sonic back at the battlescene with fake wreckage of the Metallix as to think Sonic had beaten him somehow when really, like with all other Metallix models, he never stood a chance.[2]

Metallix MKIII never appeared in the comic again.
